I believe the best therapy is grounded in up-to-date science, and I use research-backed interventions, including CBT and DBT.
Some of my clients find me after a lifetime of perfectionism and self-judgement, working (too) hard to make everything seem okay from the outside and paying (too) high a price for doing it. Some find me because they have experienced, or witnessed, something horrific or traumatic. Some find me because intrusive thoughts and compulsive behaviors are starting to take over their lives. Some find me because the stress of their job is becoming too much. And some find me because they feel shame and anguish around sex or their bodies.

To do this, I employ Cognitive Behavioral Therapies as well as complementary therapeutic modalities.
I have over 20 years of expertise working with individuals experiencing anxiety disorders (panic, social, & generalized anxiety) as well as OCD and related conditions such as skin picking and hair pulling. I also have extensive experience working with individuals experiencing depression and bipolar disorder. Seeking and engaging in psychological services can transform one’s life but can also be intimidating. My goal as a therapist is to meet my patients where they are at and collaborate with them to identify and work toward their treatment goals.

I specialize in CBT, DBT, CPT/PE, Schema Therapy & Mindfulness-based therapies amongst other evidence-based psychotherapies. The main therapeutic approaches I draw from are Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Exposure & Response Prevention, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, and Internal Family Systems.
Maybe you're tired of suffering from being bossed around by OCD or anxiety. Perhaps you’re in a painful life transition and feeling uncertain, afraid, or lost. I’m glad you’re here. If you feel hopeless, I believe things can get much better, one step at a time. Although it sure can feel this way, rather than viewing OCD or anxiety as a monster trying to torture us, I see it as a hypervigilant alert system whose aim is to keep us safe at all costs. Retraining that alert system can help us get unstuck, heal, and thrive. I never claim to have the answers for anyone’s life, but I love helping people find answers within themselves.

I utilize techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy ( CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients identify their strengths and build strategies that work for their unique brain.
Do you ever feel like you're constantly playing catch-up? Like your to-do list mocks you with its ever-growing length? Does the pressure to meet expectations leave you feeling stressed and ashamed? You're not alone. Many people grapple with executive dysfunction, often leading to a cycle of self-blame and paralysis. It can feel like your brain operates on a different schedule, making it frustrating to navigate a world built for a different kind of mind. But here's the thing: you are not broken. You are worthy of love and success, just the way you are. I am a queer, anti-oppressive therapist who wants to find what works for you.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
