Hello, and welcome! Life can be very challenging and overwhelming at times. I know and I get it. For some, we tend to try to solve our problems on our own and reaching out for help is out of the question; sometimes it works. If you haven't been able to solve it on your own, I would love to meet you, and together we can create ways towards hope and begin the healing process. I believe that therapy can assist you by helping to identify what has worked in the past, what you already have within that you can draw upon in helping to obtain what you are hoping for in life.

Things have been tough before in your life but lately your anxiety has been pretty constant. You sometimes wonder if you’re overreacting...after all, isn't everyone struggling? But when you really pay attention, it worries you. Your chest feels tight and it’s difficult to take a full breath. You can't pinpoint exactly what is making you feel this way, which seems to make it worse. You try talking to your friends and although they're supportive you can't help feeling like you're a burden. You think everyone is sick of hearing about your struggles and you wonder why you can't just get over it like everyone else seems to be able to do.

Ah, this life! In the lyrics of an old song, ‘Nobody said it was easy, no-one ever said it would be so hard’. I’ve spent most of my life dedicated to human connection- to self and other— bringing deep curiosity to how we can belong deeply to ourselves, and still be loved and belong deeply to one another. It’s not easy. Yet, it truly is possible. And, we need courage and guides along the way. That is where I can help. Our time together is a place where you can unfold yourself. Where you can learn to trust again. I am skilled at working in the deeper realms of grief, depression, anxiety, trauma, and above all intimacy and sexuality.

If you are having difficulty coping with the loss of a loved one; have experienced sexual or other types of abuse; if you feel sad, anxious or worried most of the time; if you are having conflict in a personal, marital or family relationship; if you want to improve your parenting skills, or just want to learn how to manage stressful living, I can help you.
Serving as a minister and earning a PhD in Counseling Psychology equipped me to care for people in crises. Working with vulnerable children and their families or caregivers, also proved to be a valuable foundation for clinical care. In a medical academic setting, training residents in the use of spirituality and psychology as they cared for their patients, deepened my own understanding of just how complex clinical issues can become. This also increased my understanding of the level of stress healthcare providers and victims themselves experience during illness.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
