I love working with a diversity of populations. My ideal client has some insight into what he/she is struggling with and a willingness to open up about their pain. I understand that trusting a therapist can be frighting, especially for those who have a history of painful relationships. I am client centered and will work at your pace with the understanding that as we build trust I will start to challenge thoughts and behaviors that are keeping you from meeting your goals.

I am experienced with couples navigating ADHD or CPTSD, LGBTQ partnerships, or cultural differences.
Somehow, a longing, block, or pain led you to seek support. This could be self-doubt, a painful relationship pattern, or even past trauma. Together, we can unearth deeper understanding, change, and connection in your life. I see relationships as powerful mirrors that show us deeper parts of ourselves, which makes them ideal spaces for growth. I offer support to reconnect with yourself or your partner, lower relationship anxiety, manage anger, rebuild trust and intimacy, heal after loss or a breakup, or untangle emotional patterns that keep you from fully living. You don't have to carry your stress or anxiety alone.

Are you a self-described "weirdo or nerd" who feels like you're not fitting into your own life? As a therapist who specializes in working with queer, neurodivergent, polyamorous, kinky, and pagan folks, I get it. My clients often say they are exhausted by constant worry that a loved one is about to leave them, having difficulty sleeping, using too much of a substance to feel briefly better (and then feeling worse after), or constantly feeling on edge. If you're wrestling with who you are while managing overwhelming emotions and exhausting anxiety, you're not alone.

While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges. Existing in this modern world can be a complex and overwhelming experience. Messages of perfectionism and achievement are all around us. It is common to experience periods of functional freeze, where you feel a sense of paralysis around choice and forward movement. Shame can encourage thoughts and feelings of worthlessness and self-loathing that promote behaviors that we do not want to participate in, yet we find ourselves feeling stuck with. Why do we feel this shame? Why do we feel so weak? Will we ever feel joy again? How can we empower ourselves to begin stepping out of the shadows and into the light?

I have over twenty two years experience working with adults, adolescents, and families in behavioral and community mental health. However, the last thirteen years have been the most gratifying as I have had the privilege to practice directly as a mental health therapist. My approach focuses on working collaboratively with clients to find the change, growth, peace of mind, and general sense of well being they seek, as well as to help work through the challenges that life can present.

As a sex and relationship therapist, I bring a somatic perspective to sessions: highlighting the nervous system, locating feelings in the body, and developing skills for increased pleasure and embodiment. My primary focus is relationships, including relationship to others, community, self, the body, and the natural world. I believe that connecting with ourselves leads to a deeper connection with others, and I practice both individual and relational therapy. In session, I invite deeper conversations around sexuality and gender, which are foundational aspects of who we are and how we express ourselves.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.
How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.
Are there specific medications for ADHD?
Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.
How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
