I work with individuals, couples, and families to address issues ranging from relational conflict to the broad spectrum of mental health. Through an eclectic approach utilizing cognitive behavioral, solution-focused, and family systems-based modalities, I explore current problems within the social, cultural, and environmental context of life experiences and the impact these experiences have on both physical and mental health. I often approach the presenting issue as a symptom and endeavor to assist clients in developing an understanding of the function that problem serves and how to achieve that same function with more desired outcomes.

Life is a meaning-filled adventure. But encountering meaningful change can be painful as often as it can be joyful. Each one of us struggles to find integration between challenging problems and fulfilment. Each one of us also holds the tools for our own healing. Your unique story is about learning to be fully you in the reality of this living, breathing world. You can choose to become more interconnected, more fully alive, and more free. With a background in theatre, drama, and literature, I work with children, teens, and adults to uncover creative potential in our own healing, strengthen relationships, and discover our stories.

In 8 years of working in mental health, I have served neurodiverse, chronically traumatized and systemically oppressed people, of all ages, including children under 5, elders, couples, adolescents and parents. The golden thread is being safe enough space for authenticity. Considering the oppressive origins of the mental health complex, all feelings are valid, folks have every right to not trust me or this work, and skepticism is welcomed. We all have a natural capacity for healing, and it is my honor to support folks with removing obstacles to allow for their healing and authentic joy.

Can you imagine that it's possible to behold your journey as an opportunity for growth, healing and enriched connections? What would it be like to know that you have the capacity to hold both grief and gratitude? It could be that you have come to a cross-road or are standing on significant thresholds as you face transitions, challenges and decision-making. Maybe grief has cracked you open, or you are struggling with illness and long to discover meaning and balance once again. Perhaps you have an emergent sense that there is “something more” that you are yearning for?

It's the most socially appropriate time in modern history to be a bit of a mess, but that doesn't make it easier for most of us. Being intelligent can actually make it harder to adapt to new things outside your frames of reference. Being empathetic can cause you to feel like you're constantly letting others & yourself down. Being unique or outside norms can leave you feeling lonely & questioning yourself. If you tend to hold & hide everything inside, or if you're someone who can't help but dump everything out all over the place, you may be experiencing miscommunication & judgment from others on top of everything.

Immediate in-office and virtual openings! Do you ever wonder why others seem to be living their best lives while you feel like you’re wandering, worried you’re not doing things right? You’re under a lot of pressure and want to feel confident and free, but instead you catch yourself thinking things like: “Am I happy?” “Am I making the right decisions to get me to where I want to go?” “Where do I want to go?” “Am I actually living the life I want to live?” Instead of feeling in control of your life, you feel uneasy, restless, and confused. Deep down, you know you are worthy a fulfilling life, but you don’t know how to get there.

In my 40 years as a psychologist my goal has been to provide the safe nurturing environment that creates a productive client/therapist relationship. I have never forgotten my early experiences in seeking help from a therapist, wondering what it would be like, and if it would really help. I appreciated the understanding and insight I received then, and throughout my life, sometimes with my husband, I have found different kinds of therapy that were helpful to me and to my clients.

Relational Therapists
How does relational therapy work?
Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.
Is relational therapy evidence-based?
Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.
How long are people typically in relational therapy?
Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.
Does relational therapy work?
While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
