I work from a person-centered perspective while drawing from cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and mindfulness techniques.
There have been many times in my life when I have needed a counselor. Whether it was to help in figuring out my next step in school, what track I needed to take in college, or even talking about my own personal struggles, counselors have played a role in my life and have helped me achieve many of my goals. I came to appreciate the role of a counselor and the hard work and dedication it takes to walk alongside clients and their journey. Therapy is hard work, and it is a task that many don’t want to face alone.

I offer a client-centered, non-judgmental approach and use skills drawn from motivational interviewing, CBT and DBT to set goals, confront unhealthy coping mechanisms and improve how you communicate and assert boundaries.
My experience is heavily rooted in Forensic Mental Health. I've spent a total of 8 years working between the court and jail. The last 5 years were spent in King County Correctional Facility as a Psychiatric Evaluation Specialist. I was the primary clinician responsible for the treatment of the incarcerated women on the psych unit. I did a significant amount of work with our suicidal unit and was responsible for conducting the 4 hour suicide trainings assigned to all new staff and officers in the jail. I value the complexity of the human experience and strive to provide a safe non judgmental space for clients to heal.

Sending you the best on your therapy journey! I work with adult women, non-binary people, and gender expansive individuals who are struggling with depression, anxiety, and the impacts of previous trauma. I have specialized experience treating clients with disordered eating, eating disorders, and body image concerns as well. I particularly love client work that engages in identity exploration, reflecting on and healing attachment styles, and reparenting. While I am grateful for the accessibility to therapy that telehealth provides, I strongly prefer to meet with clients in person, as I find it to be exceptionally effective.

I have undergone training in motivational interviewing and cognitive Behavioral therapy, incorporating many of the skills acquired in daily practice, including active listening, reflection, and meeting clients “where they are at” in the process of healing.
Addressing mental health presents a challenge in many ways. It is a valid fact, especially in a world that can lead others to feel ashamed, since we live in a society that could shun away others as we deal with behaviors that are stigmatized and oppressed. I welcome you to those challenges and appreciate you. having the courage to stand up for yourself, your family, and others.

I also draw from different toolboxes, such as CBT, DBT, and motivational interviewing.
Even when we know that some of our emotional pain is unnecessary, on our own it can be difficult to figure out why the extra suffering and how to make it better. Anxiety, depression, trauma re-activation, relationship difficulties, and coping strategies are natural responses to life experiences and circumstances. Do they need to hurt so and are we stuck with them? Therapy is a great place to gain perspective on what you can change. Also, to widen the horizon from managing pain to living more fully like yourself and to thriving. Because, as Thich Nhat Hanh said, "suffering is not enough".

I love working with individuals, as well as couples. I have a lot of experience working with queer, non-heteronormative, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ clients, but that is not to say that I don’t love working with people who do not identify within those marginalized identities as well! I enjoy working with those who want to learn more about how to manage anxiety and panic disorder, engage with attachment disorders/historical ruptures, and childhood trauma. Motivational Interviewing Therapists

How does motivational interviewing work?

Motivational interviewing aims to uncover a person’s internal motivation to change their life. Toward this end, the therapist listens, empathizes, and collaborates with the client based on their perspective; the therapist doesn’t adhere to a predetermined plan for change or impose their viewpoint on the client. Discovering an individual’s most important reasons for change, and guiding them to achieve those changes, can empower people to shift from ambivalence to action.

Is motivational interviewing evidence-based?

Yes, research shows that motivational interviewing can help treat alcohol and substance use — and in different ways such as reducing drinking, reducing resistance, and increasing the likelihood of staying in treatment. Motivational interviewing has also been shown to help people lose weight, adhere to medication regimens, improve diet for those with Type II diabetes, and improve healthy behaviors in children.

How long does motivational interviewing last?

Motivational interviewing is a short-term therapy that can last just one or two sessions. In some cases, motivational interviewing may be used in conjunction with longer-term therapies, but for most people, motivational interviewing is a brief intervention that aims to help patients understand their personal, specific, and internal reasons for changing their life.

What differentiates motivational interviewing from person-centered therapy?

In person-centered therapy, the individual is in the driver’s seat of the treatment process, creating space for them to trust their instincts and arrive at their own solutions. The two approaches are similar because motivational interviewing is also client-centered; however, person-centered therapy is more open-ended while motivational interviewing is somewhat more structured; the goal is to change, and the therapist helps the client specifically discover their internal motivations to modify their behavior.
