I am a passionate and dedicated therapist specializing in EMDR Intensives, provided either as an adjunct service alongside your current talk-therapy, or as a standalone service for those craving intense, focused work to springboard them into their next level of growth and identity creation.
Maybe you've been hearing about stepping into "main-character energy" or becoming the hero/heroine of your own story. A voice nags, quietly but persistently, that life is passing you by or reminds you that you really "should" do that thing you've been meaning to do. You long to be in alignment with your core values and feel proud of the person your unique life's journey has shaped you into. Perhaps you'd simply like to be able to identify what your dream life looks like. Maybe the idea of becoming more attached to your growth than your suffering intrigues you, you're just not sure how one makes that shift. What's an author to do?

I use evidence-based models like The Gottman Method & EMDR & offer Ketamine assisted therapy to help clients save relationships, and heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that result from adverse life experiences.
We all want to feel better & have thriving relationships, but our life experiences have a direct impact on that. Whether you're an individual with unresolved trauma, a first responder whose job is affecting their personal life, or a couple struggling to communicate or with infidelity, for example. Conflict & residual trauma can cause a loss of connection over time with those we love. And trauma left untreated can cause heightened reactions, like anger or fear, or the opposite - emotional detachment. You may notice feeling sad or irritable, have nightmares, or struggle with trust. The effects are different for each person.

I am currently certified in EMDR, which is the main intervention I use in my practice for both adults and children.
I enjoy helping individuals work through their issues by processing their trauma. When a person resolves their trauma the rest of their issues in life usually go away. I believe in a strong collaborative relationship with my client. You are in charge of your recovery. My hope is for you to be able to look at your past and present in order to help you identify how they have both helped you and gotten in the way of you being able to achieve your goals in relationships and in life. Connecting the dots from your past experiences to what is currently going on in your life is a strong motivator for change

Change is inevitable and life is unpredictable- two guaranteed discomforts in life. Whether caused by unexpected and unforeseen circumstances or recurring throughout your life, such great discomfort can be trying on anyone’s well-being. Hardships and traumas do not discriminate and can affect all humans, causing us distress within our emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual parts. I believe therapy is a place to heal our wounds; to learn how to cope with life stressors and find ways to self-soothe; and to have a non-judgmental space held by someone who can provide safety and security. You do not have to do this alone.

Hello, my name is Venette and I am a transplant from San Diego. My primary areas of focus are anxiety/panic disorders, mood disorders, PTSD, adjustment disorder, cultural and ethnic issues, spiritual and faith-based counseling, and working with the veteran/military connected population. As a 20-year Marine Corps veteran myself, I am both confident and comfortable serving this population that I have proudly identified with for the last three decades. I have witnessed through my own children, stepchildren, spouse, and fellow veterans, the psychological distress that comes from serving in the military.

I offer a holistic and personalized approach to healing through my training in Parts and Memory Therapy, EMDR, DBT, CBT, Intuitive Eating, Mindfulness, and Yoga.
I provide therapy not only because I strive to support others, but because I believe therapy works. I admire the vulnerability and strength that go into the healing process. I know you have within you what it takes to heal, but that doesn't mean you have to do it alone. You deserve to feel safe enough in both your mind and body to fully engage in life. My clients are seeking out therapy for relief from their complex trauma, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, and/or anger. I work with anyone ages 14 and up.

If you have tried traditional counseling and still feel stuck, EMDR may be a good fit for you.
I have been trained in many talk-based therapy modalities. However, I primarily use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing ( EMDR) with my patients. Not everyone is ready for EMDR, and talk-based therapy may be a better fit.

Sometimes, we have a problem that needs an outside perspective that allows ourselves to resolve it and move forward. Sometimes, we just need confirmation that what we are thinking is real and justified. Whether it is anxiety, depression, relationship issues, suicidality, or changes in life you are dealing with (like empty nesting, retirement, moving from home, elderly care) are all things we need help to transition into. I can help you navigate them collaboratively, and with your narrative in place.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
