You are ready to dive deep and explore the inner workings of your life in order to understand, heal, and thrive. You'll find my services particularly effective if you are going through transition (career/livelihood, relational, geographical, physical, gender, financial, and so on), wanting to explore traumatic experiences, seeking support for learning or acquired physical disabilities, you are struggling with stress, anxiety, depression, and parts of your life that feel out of control. You might also be seeking support through use of nature and mindfulness-based or somatic therapy modalities, dream exploration, and spirituality.

My approach is experiential, informed by Internal Family Systems, somatic psychology, polyvagal theory, and mindfulness practices.
Are you thrown off balance by unresolved fears, shame, anxiety or distress? Is your relationship with food and your body a source of stress that interrupts your ability to fully immerse yourself in the present moment, robbing you of connection with yourself and others? For many of us, our past collides with the present and we struggle to make sense of our lived experience. I am of the mind that the only way out is in. I welcome you to embark on a journey into yourself, where you may discover abandoned and rejected parts of yourself, and a wellspring of insight and self-compassion for your most difficult challenges.

A down-to-earth approach is often what is needed to get to the heart of the struggles in our lives... Psychospiritual growth, relationship issues and somatic (body) awareness are at the core of my working with people. Together we will co-create a sacred space where the depths of your feelings and concerns can be safely explored, processed, and supported. My role will be to accompany and intuitively guide you on this unfolding, transformational journey.

I incorporate mindful, somatic, emotion-focused, and CBT approaches into counseling that is compassionate, ethical, and hopeful.
Are you at a crossroads in life? I support adults as they work through present struggles and past painful experiences like divorce, career issues, chronic pain, grief, parenting concerns, and other stressors. Another focus area of my practice is on processing religious abuse, deconstruction, and spiritual exploration. It is common to experience anxiety, depression, low self esteem, and a host of other symptoms in response to traumatic experiences, but healing is possible no matter what you are facing.

My practice comes from a trauma-informed lens and I greatly value somatic and inner mind-body connection work which is incorporated through talk therapy and Lifespan Integration.
Life is meant to be lived fully, but often there are circumstances that get in the way of our ability to engage at the level that we want to. Whether that is a trauma or loss or a major life stressor that has made life seem unbearable, you can receive help and there is hope of moving forward and living life to the fullness of your potential. My counseling practice stems from the belief that each and every human has value and deserves to be seen and heard, regardless of age, background, or status. I work with individual adults and adolescents employing trauma-informed care on your path to recovery from life’s difficulties.

Your anxiety won’t go away, no matter what you’ve tried. The grief in your heart is heavy, and you are scared it will weigh down the people around you, too. The trauma from your childhood keeps coming up, no matter how much you try to push it down, and it affects your intimate relationships. You struggle to fall asleep at night, and then struggle to wake up in the morning. Your neck and back are in constant pain from the tension, and you might even experience migraines or digestive issues. You want to live a life that feels peaceful and purposeful, but can’t seem to get out of your own way.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
