I view therapy through a relational, trauma-informed lens and use tools from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
Welcoming New Clients! I work with individuals going through a major life transition such as burnout, grief/loss, "empty nester syndrome", a career crisis, break-up/divorce, etc. They are surprised how this change has revealed things about themselves that have been too painful to acknowledge until now. Whether it's underlying anxiety or depression symptoms, perfectionism, "people-pleasing", regret, grief or shame, they want to learn more about who they are so they can have a more fulfilling relationship with themselves and others.

My approach is highly relational and I prioritize creating a safe space.
I offer faith-based, Christian counseling. However, I recognize and respect that you may not share all or any of my beliefs or values. Religion and spirituality are important facets of an individual’s personal and cultural identity, which can be sources of pain as well as healing. It is of utmost importance to me that therapy is a safe space where we show mutual respect for a diversity of beliefs, opinions, and practices. This is part of creating trust and respect in the therapeutic relationship and finding the skills and tools that work best for you.

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, with a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy. I specialize in individual, couples and family therapy with mental health diagnoses as well as relational conflicts. I strongly believe that family is the fundamental yet the most important and influential factor for each individual's physical and emotional well being. We all want to be seen and understood and at the same time are afraid of what we and others will find. We don't trust ourselves or our decisions. We suffer from anxiety, depression, traumas and a myriad of other relational issues. In counseling we learn to understand ourselves and others by telling our stories well. As a greek philosopher once said, "An unexamined life isn't worth living". When we learn to examine ourselves with curiosity, compassion, and truth our life becomes clear hopeful and fullfilling.

I approach conversations on cultural identity, boundary setting, dealing with relational conflict and so on in a way that is authentic to you while also keeping your background in mind.
In difficult situations we might shut down, have a hard time identifying/communicating needs, might experience anxiety or struggle to control anger. In our work together you will have a chance to learn more about yourself, grow compassion towards yourself and understand your triggers better. I believe that our bodies are constantly giving us messages. These messages are an invitation to help us understand our needs and attend to them better.

I use a relational and trauma-informed approach, drawing upon evidence-based models such as attachment theory, emotion focused therapy, and family systems theory.
We all experience suffering, distress, or relational difficulty at different times in our lives. I work from a Christian worldview and believe that healing and growth take place within supportive relationships. Thus, I seek to offer you a trusted space to process the vulnerable parts of your story. We will collaboratively explore relationships and patterns that have influenced current behaviors, thoughts, beliefs, and feelings. The goal will be to uncover the root causes of your concerns and address past wounds that keep you stuck and hold you back from the flourishing and wholeness you were created for.

Relational Therapists

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
