I utilize modalities such as parts work, DBT, ACT, narrative therapy, and somatic experiencing.
Are you tired of therapists starting their bios with rhetorical sentences? (I’ve always wanted to start my bio that way). I am energized by working with people who feel tired of the ‘usual’ therapy process, and I love supporting people in their process toward increasing their life and relationship satisfaction by learning (and relearning) effective skills. Often these tools are obscured by coping skills that have been successfully utilized for short-term survival and therefore turned into habits. I love working with families (including couples), and individuals who are willing to show up.

“Loving ourselves through the process of owning our story is the bravest thing we will ever do” Brene Brown. My clients are those who are ready and willing to take ownership of their story in a way that feels authentic and empowering. This story ownership often involves self identity work, discovering or reclaiming values, setting boundaries/interpersonal work, learning how to both accept emotions and take action, self compassion, and learning to "come home" to yourself. Common issues I support are anxiety, depression, relationships, pregnancy and postpartum, life transitions, ADHD, perfectionism, and family of origin issues.

I utilize a combination of cognitive (thought-based) therapies and somatic (body-based) therapies in order to address how trauma and emotional dysregulation affects both our brains and our bodies.
I love to help people live more authentic, fuller lives by celebrating the things that make you unique, and helping you identify what you need to live a more values-driven life. I often work with folks who want to feel less trapped in worry, sadness, anger, or feelings of worthlessness and loneliness. Many come to me with traumatic or painful past experiences, and they want to better navigate relationships with others or manage their emotions in healthier ways. They want to find meaning in their lives, and be more confident in who they are as an individual.

Your trauma deserves expert care. I combine EMDR and somatic therapy in unique ways to help you heal quickly and fully. My approach uses the innate abilities of the mind plus the body to build coping skills and to heal deep, hidden trauma. Right now, is feeling good about yourself and about your relationships a struggle? Are you spending most days being driven by fear or heavy with despair even though you try to stay positive? Maybe you're trapped in patterns you’re trying to break but they always seem to win. Its probably feeling like an exhausting battle with yourself and you don’t know if things will ever really get better.

Think of my counseling style as a colorful mosaic, blending together narrative interventions, somatic awareness, mindfulness tools, attachment theory, and Internal Family Systems’ parts work.
Hello! I am glad you're here. My name is Crystalin and I feel honored being a therapist! To me, it's like being a compassionate companion on someone's journey, helping them rediscover the incredible depth and strength within themselves and their communities. Life can throw us curveballs, leaving us feeling disconnected from who we truly are. But by embracing every part of ourselves with kindness, even the parts we may not always love, we open up avenues for healing and personal growth.

I also use DBT, CBT, Somatic Psychotherapy, and creative.
I am especially skilled in working with pre-teen/teenagers and individuals struggling with depression, suicidal thoughts/behaviors, and self-harm thoughts and behaviors. I work with anyone 10 and up. I am highly passionate about working with BIPOC and/or Queer identifying clients due to personally identifying with these communities. It is important to me that I am "real" with my clients in an age appropriate way so that we can build a strong relationship.

Somatic psychotherapy to me means coming home to ourselves in our bodies.
"Pain is important: how we evade it, how we succumb to it, how we deal with it, how we transcend it" - Audre Lorde. I hope to build healing relationships with people who would like to create more connection, ease and freedom in their lives. I work relationally and through the body by building self awareness, and doing standing and seated embodiment practices.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
