Whether through insight oriented therapy, active practice with coping skills, mindfulness based techniques, changing behaviors, or grief work, I endeavor to provide therapeutic interventions that match your current needs.
I believe that each of us has the capacity to become knowledgeable about what feels workable in day-to-day living and to uncover what personal values we would like to strive for in our life. I am drawn to working with folks who want to discover more about themselves (both strengths and areas of growth), their identity, their relationships, their role in the world, and how to lead a fulfilling, meaningful life. I value the opportunity to think together with clients about how therapy could be most helpful for them. I am well-suited to work with people who are looking for meaningful and measurable change in their life.

Now Accepting New Clients! As a specialist offering the gold-standard in ADHD psychotherapy and coaching, I know already how you start your day: Intent on finally getting those tasks done that you've so carefully planned and scheduled, you're ready to go! You've had your coffee, walked the dog, seen your loved ones off for their day and are ready to get to work. And then - you check your email! Which leads to Facebook (just for a sec) and then YouTube (because a colleague sent a link) and on and on. Soon, it's distraction after distraction until the familiar feeling of frustration leads to another day of wasted potential.

Sometimes life can throw us a curve ball and we need some help navigating the unexpected. Most of us will seek therapy at some point in our lives, but that doesn’t make asking for help any easier. For many of us, that is the most difficult step. I specialize in a strengths-based, person-centered approach that helps my clients learn to challenge their own automatic thought patterns in a way that frees them to create the future they desire rather than be a slave to automatic thinking. Strongly believing in a collaborative approach to therapy where we work together as a team, I consider myself a guide as we work toward your goals.

Lifespan Integration, CIMBS, and mindfulness work ground my practice.
The human experience presents opportunities, obstacles and constant change. Oftentimes, the challenges we face feel overwhelming and prevent us from seeing the possibility for growth, while the pace of living interferes with our ability to stay focused on the present moment where creative possibility abides. The distractions we all use to keep us from pain do not serve us anymore, but we are left wondering how to live without them. Navigating challenge and finding new possibility are sometimes difficult to accomplish on our own.

Often times in life, hardship and trauma force us to sever the connection to our authentic self in order to survive. This may show up in your life as anxiety or depression, difficulty in managing your emotions, or maybe it's just noticing that it's a little harder to make it through each day. Whatever needs may be seeking your attention, I am here to offer empathetic and compassionate support. My goal in working with clients is to help them discover ways they can leave survival mode behind and regain access to their intuition and authentic self.

I believe that we are all experts in our own lives and have an innate ability to overcome adversity. But sometimes it's just too hard to do alone. My goal as a psychotherapist is to offer you tools to understand and claim your strengths, tap into your inner wisdom, and move towards a more fulfilling life. Most importantly, my approach is gentle and non-judgmental.

I embrace a cognitive-behavioral perspective, with influence from contextualism, attachment theory, mindfulness, and polyvagal theory.
Maybe you’re a parent worried about being “good enough,” whether your child’s behavior is “normal”, whether they are safe. Maybe you’re a teenager, feeling heartbroken over a friendship, unsure of who you are in the world, anxious about school tomorrow. Whether you're a kid (0-12yo), teenager (13-19yo), or parent, I think I can help. You have known you, and/or your child, your entire life — you are the expert in you. What I bring is expertise in pediatric evidence-based interventions. My hope is that together, we can create a context that feels safe to explore new patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving that improve your life.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
