My approach is rooted in dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), which focuses on building skills in mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotional regulation, and distress tolerance.
Since you are here, you may be wondering if therapy is the answer. You may notice certain patterns that keep showing up in your life that you desperately want to change. Maybe you find that anxiety, overthinking, isolation, and perfectionism get in the way of you living a content and connected life. I strive to create an empowering and compassionate environment where we work together to identify areas of growth and change or of acceptance. You don't have to keep feeling stuck, there are tools out there that can help. Offering DBT, RO-DBT, and ERP treatments based on evaluation.

In addition to providing therapy, I also provide psychological assessment in areas including academic difficulties, ADHD, autism, behavioral problems, and emotional concerns.
I am a clinical psychologist who focuses on working with children of all ages and their families. I particularly enjoy working with children birth through five as well as teenagers, which means I also work closely with caregivers. I spend the first session getting to know the child and family in order to work with the family to determine the type of treatment that best suits their needs.

I have advanced training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and use this most often due to its focus on behavior change, wide applicability, and effectiveness.
I view therapy as a partnership between client and therapist and approach issues from a behavior change perspective. I work with clients to identify areas that are causing distress, understand how they may be contributing to these problems, and identify changes they can actively make to yield the results they want to see. Because of the many positions I have held in the mental health field during the past 17 years, I am able to pull from a variety of evidenced-based treatment modalities and easily adjust course in order to best meet a client’s needs. Please refer to my website bio for more. Initial inquiries preferred via email.

For this reason, in my work with adults, I largely use a combination of Cognitive behavioral therapy and Restoration therapy.
Finding a space where you can be fully accepted and known while being encouraged to meet your full potential is rare. This is the space I strive to provide in my office. My name is Laura Matheson and my passion is partnering with adults, adolescents, children, and families to facilitate them in developing better relationships, overcoming anxiety and trauma, and growing in their areas of strength. Through individual, parenting sessions, evidence based treatments, select toys, games, arts, and crafts I will help guide you or your family to develop effective ways to express emotions and thoughts.

Hi! I'm Jackie and my superpower is connecting with young people. I've been working with children and adolescents from around the globe for over 25 years. As an educator, I learned about the developmental stages that shape a child's needs, emotions, and behavior. Now, as a therapist, I'm thrilled to engage with children and their families in a way that builds strength and resilience. I received my MA in Counseling from NYU and a post-graduate certificate in Play Therapy from Antioch University where I discovered a passion for Play Therapy, Child-Parent Relationship Therapy, and Sand Tray Therapy.

Website: ghostsandangels.org I provide mental health therapy for children ages 0 to 12 experiencing stress, transitions, the effects of trauma, and other emotional and behavioral needs. I work virtually with clients in Washington State using evidence-based practices and creative, child-centered activities. I also offer therapy to parents & caregivers who want to reduce the stress of parenting and increase the connectedness they share with their child. This form of therapy can be particularly supportive to cycle breakers: parents with stress and trauma themselves who are working to change the generational patterns in their families.

Behavioral Issues Therapists

What happens in therapy for behavioral issues?

No matter the type of therapy, individuals form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is often therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Individuals learn to identify situations that are especially troublesome for them and acquire new patterns of thinking and behaving. In therapy for ADHD, one of the most common behavior issues for children, individuals learn how to improve frustration tolerance, control impulsivity, manage attentional focus, and gain skills of self-organisation.

What therapy types help with behavioral issues?

Many types of therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Perhaps best-known and most widely tested is cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT), in which individuals learn new behavioral strategies and curb reactivity to frustrating or distressing situations that trigger disruptive behaviour. Anger, anxiety, mood disorders, impulse control problems are commonly addressed in CBT. Family therapy or parent management training is often helpful to reduce parent-child conflict and behavioral difficulties at home.

How long does therapy last for behavioral issues?

Among popular approaches to treating behavioral concerns, CBT is considered a short-term therapy intended to be administered in 15 to 20 weekly sessions. Parent training in behavior management, often used when the underlying cause of behavior issues is ADHD in children under 12, usually occurs in weekly sessions for 8 to 16 weeks. When behavioral issues stem from persistent aggression or defiance, therapy may last for months, and usually targets both children and their parents.

How effective is therapy for behavior issues?

Studies show that therapy for behavior issues in children is highly effective and may prevent the development of antisocial behavior later in life. Family intervention—parent management training or family therapy, both of which involve parents and children together—is considered most effective, notably for children under age 12 who persistently engage in aggressive, defiant, rule-breaking or other disruptive behavior. Whether provided alone or in combination with medication, CBT is highly effective in helping people regulate their emotions, and for people with ADHD, it addresses impulsiveness, hyperactivity and attentional focus.
