I am trained in EMDR, clinical hypnosis, internal family systems, and sensorimotor psychotherapies.
I have over thirty years of clinical experience helping clients find lasting change in their lives. My clinical focus is treating depression, anxiety, and trauma. I have specialized training in treating complex trauma including dissociative disorders. When working with trauma, the healing process can often be frightening and painful to address. Talk alone is not enough and can be retraumatizing in some cases. I use EMDR. My goal is to provide a professional, yet personal atmosphere where you can experience comfort and safety in exploring what is troubling you and find effective tools and skills that you can use in your life.

I use a mindfulness-based approach and utilize internal family systems to bring cohesion and lessen distress.
In life, we learn to do what we have to in order to survive. Sometimes that means finding skills to escape trauma that don't end up serving us in the long run. I am passionate about helping individuals nourish their mind, body and spirit to overcome trauma, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, addictive behaviors, poor self-image and other mental health struggles. I believe in helping my clients feel empowered to trust their instincts and create coping skills, self love, and a life they don't want to escape from.

Change is an amazing opportunity for growth. Whether the change is initiated by us or is unexpected, change is an opportunity to increase our self-awareness and grow towards realizing our best selves. Change is often challenging and can feel scary. Exploring how we react to change by following the thread of our reactive emotions, thinking and behaviors directs us to the strategies that will effectively set us on the path to self-discovery and empowerment.

Therapy isn't mysterious. It's a conversation that helps you create clarity about your feelings, what you really need or want, and how to get there. My photo shows me years ago enjoying a hike in Yellowstone. I also enjoy my clients. It is refreshing to provide a comfortable place for you to express your true feelings, to problem-solve and clarify your thinking. It is OK to seek help. Emotional overload happens to everyone. Your problem doesn't define your value. Imagine newborn babies. They are all equal and valuable. Self-limiting beliefs are "learned" later. It is an essential understanding that your true self is perfect.

I am a Level 2 trained IFS therapist.
Everything feels hard right now doesn't it? Realizing that maybe, things are not fine and you are not ok. Maybe even coming to the hard conclusion that some of the things that you have experienced are impacting you in ways that you know are not healthy or helpful. You want to be better, but don't know how. Most of my practice is working with those in the helping field...First responders, medical professionals and fellow therapists. It is HARD to seek support when you are the one typically supporting and helping. It is normal to feel alone, but I will work with you as we find your path back to health and hope.

Trauma and attachment focused, Internal Family Systems and EMDR trained.
While teenagers and young adults are not the ideal client for some, I like to think I'm a bit different. I really enjoy working with teens, young adults, and young people in general- especially those with attachment and trauma issues. Additionally, working with the families of those teens is one of the quickest routes to healing, and I feel that you can't help the teen without also helping the family. I do this through trauma informed therapies such as, EMDR, Internal Family Systems, and Motivational Interviewing.

In a world that is habitually fast-paced and anonymous, it is easy to lose connection with ourselves and each other. Are you feeling disconnected or stuck? Like the parts of your life are out of sync? Having difficulties in relationships? Typically, I work with people experiencing disconnection and "stuck" feelings which often show up during times of transition and change within the context of significant relationships including parents, partners, children and friends. I also work with people around the stuck places connected to various trauma experiences.

What is Internal Family Systems therapy?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.
How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.
Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.
How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
