Somatic psychotherapy to me means coming home to ourselves in our bodies.
"Pain is important: how we evade it, how we succumb to it, how we deal with it, how we transcend it" - Audre Lorde. I hope to build healing relationships with people who would like to create more connection, ease and freedom in their lives. I work relationally and through the body by building self awareness, and doing standing and seated embodiment practices.

I operate from a feminist anti-oppressive stance. I am a trauma-informed therapist who is dedicated to helping my clients work through current stressors, relationship challenges, and past trauma. I enjoy working with many client populations and have experience supporting members of the LGBTQIA+ community, survivors of intimate partner violence and sexual assault, individuals who are grieving, and folx who are navigating challenging or toxic familial relationships. I particularly enjoy working with clients who have childhood and complex trauma and are navigating challenging relationships with their family of origin.

Sometimes we can find ourselves just surviving- moving through our daily tasks and engaging with others while on autopilot. Much like zoning out while driving, coming to and wondering where the last ten miles or thirty minutes went, we can “come to" and find ourselves behaving toward ourselves and others in automatic, disconnected, and even reactive ways. We all want and need to feel seen and heard. I hope to provide a space to be seen and heard without judgement. .

Wonderful Christian Counseling is a therapy clinic that focuses on the mental well-being of each client. Each session is tailored to the specific client needs. Compassion and empathy are the center focus of my therapy sessions. I realize that people need to be met where they are at and in order for them to process through whatever situation or issues they may be experiencing, one must feel connected in the therapeutic setting. It is my goal to build a welcoming environment where clients feel vulnerable and safe. It is my hope that clients feel the care, kindness, and sincerity I have for their mental well-being.

I am a mental health counselor who believes therapy is a process in which you will gain greater self-awareness, that can change how you live in the world and relate to others. We all have issues from our past, big and small traumas, being triggered by our current situations that prevent us from living a more meaningful life. Creating healthy connections with the parts of you that are challenging, builds the resources for you to be more authentic and comfortable in your own skin. By doing this, you find your strengths and face your fears.

Since my first entry level mental health job in 1998, I have been seeking to learn how to help people in the most effective, therapeutic way toward their goals for increased mental health. I completed my masters degree in Counseling Psychology in 2000 and have been a licensed counselor since 2004 working with adults in outpatient mental health care. I took a few years off to be a stay at home mom and have 17 years experience working as a therapist.

I work with people to learn skills to manage stress, anxiety, panic, depressive, and trauma symptoms and to explore difficult past experiences that may be impacting them, so that they can be more present in their lives, act in ways that match what is important to them, and to start building the life they want to live for themselves.

Therapy can feel intimidating to step into and so I hope to meet every client where they are at, whether they have been to therapy before or not. I don't believe you need to have a huge "reason" to reach out for therapy, rather a desire for healing and wholeness in your life and relationships. As a queer therapist, I hold a unique understanding of some of the challenges LGBTQIA+ folks face as they navigate the complex and beautiful journey of living their authentic life and hope to walk alongside them in that journey.

Anxiety, depression and difficult thoughts and emotions can be indicators of deeper hurts and traumas. As human beings we are relational in nature and our deepest desire is to be seen and known by another. You are not alone. You matter. There is hope and it would be an honor to journey with you. / La ansiedad, la depresión y otros pensamientos y emociones difíciles pueden ser indicadores de heridas y traumas más profundos. Pueden ser abrumadores pero hay esperanza. Usted importa y no está sola. Sería un honor trabajar juntas.

As far as others can tell, you’re rocking this thing called life. But, on the inside, you’re struggling with feelings like inadequacy, shame, and overwhelm because despite how hard you work to keep it together, keeping it together is feeling more and more out of your reach. You’re feeling stuck, and it’s taking a toll on other areas of your life, like your relationships, your work, or your health. You’re less connected to your friends and loved ones, you’re always tired, it’s hard to concentrate or focus, and you find yourself feeling anxious or down. You’re tired of keeping this to yourself, and it’s time for a change.

As a clinical psychologist, I am specialized in both psychotherapy and psychological/neuropsychological assessments and worked with a wide range of mental health related issues for people of all ages in multiple treatment settings. However, I currently only offer psychotherapy for adults through telehealth. My areas of focus include but are not limited to working with persons experiencing life transitions, issues of self-esteem, and learning how to cope with stress, trauma, grief, and loss.  My theoretic approach is psychodynamic and is tailored to the unique needs of the patients I work with.

Life is like a rollercoaster. Cheesy, I know, but it’s one of my favorite metaphors for life. It’s filled with so many ups and downs, at times we’re holding on for dear life and at others, we put our hands up in the air and enjoy the ride. It’s helpful to have someone beside you no matter where you are on the journey, and that’s why I’m here. I use a trauma- and attachment-based approach to target mind, body, and soul. I use a variety of interventions from somatic, mindfulness, narrative, emotion-focused, and cognitive behavioral frameworks. Therapy is a collaborative process, you are in the driver's seat and I in the passenger.

I also draw from CBT, DBT and Somatic Therapy.
Everyone carries emotions, memories, and sensations from difficult experiences, and consequently there are parts of you (i.e. behaviors, thought patterns, etc) that work very hard to help keep you safe. I welcome every part of you. Together we will hold space for your pain without rushing to distract, avoid or escape from it and my goal is to help you access the active healing presence inside. Please know, I personally understand that being a person of color poses many challenges in this country and seeking help from clinicians who don't look like you or talk like you makes it far more difficult. I see you and I'm here for you.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
