Depending on the needs of my client will depend on the approach I use, whether its CBT, talk, using art or games, mindfulness (meditations, music, yoga), and providing a safe environment for them to be comfortable.
Hello there! I have been working with children, adolescents, young adults transitioning into adulthood and families since March of 2019, and I have experience working with trauma, anxiety, depression, as well as parenting. Being a nerd at heart, I enjoy connecting with clients over video games and movies with therapeutic approach to help meet their goals in a way that impacts them through their interests.

With grace, and humor, we'll work with you to address challenges impacting your health, happiness, and relationships with others. It's our philosophy that whatever affects our emotional health (isolation, depression, anxiety, trauma) will affect our physical well-being (appetite, sleep, weight gain). Not too many people enjoy change and these past few years have been nothing but a roller coaster! I'd enjoy the opportunity to talk with you and understand how you're doing. How have you been affected by changes? Is BreakThrough! right for you?

People go to therapy for various reasons and there may be no "right time" to start. I realized the first step of reaching out for help can be intimidating and I strive to make that process as simple and transparent as possible. My practice is centered on the idea that behavioral change is possible and constant. With a combination of social support, personal agency and opportunities, people can flourish to their full potential. It would be my honor to be a part of your journey toward healing and growth.

You want to break free from painful relationship issues, self-defeating behaviors, and just feeling "stuck." The wonderful thing about therapy is that it provides you with a sense of relief - with hope that things CAN get better - by giving you a safe, respectful and non-judgmental space to speak freely about what is troubling you, or what is painful in your relationship. I work to create a safe, respectful and supportive environment that alleviates feelings of aloneness, and facilitates connection, awareness, healing and positive change.

My passion and focus is retraining the brain and nervous system; be it for chronic pain, trauma or helping our kids/partners feel safe. I have found, through over 20 years of exploring what does create a more gentle lived experience, is connecting deeply to ourselves and applying the latest neuroscience techniques to regulate ours and others nervous systems. Though mental health practitioners often help chronic pain patients cope with the stress of their symptoms, they can do much more. We can actually help treat the pain directly with Pain Reprocessing Therapy. Heart is free access for all - tools on Instagram: jeniquiggtherapy.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
