Hey there! If you’ve found your way here, chances are high that you’ve spent at least part of your life stuck in struggle. Feeling like you have to constantly push forward just to make it through your day and feeling powerless over it all. I get it. I know it’s not easy feeling overwhelmed with the anxiety of trying to figure it all out on your own. You deserve to be empowered, find freedom, and to have ownership over your life.

Do you avoid conflict, people-please, worry about what others think, or feel guilty about saying no, asking for what you want, or setting boundaries? These strategies, while aimed at keeping the peace, start a war inside of you. Eventually, the struggle can lead to anxiety, low self-esteem, and resentment. If you have a pattern of abandoning your well-being, needs, and feelings to prioritize supporting other people in your life, I can help you listen to what you really want and bring your relationships back into balance.

Things have been tough before in your life but lately your anxiety has been pretty constant. You sometimes wonder if you’re overreacting...after all, isn't everyone struggling? But when you really pay attention, it worries you. Your chest feels tight and it’s difficult to take a full breath. You can't pinpoint exactly what is making you feel this way, which seems to make it worse. You try talking to your friends and although they're supportive you can't help feeling like you're a burden. You think everyone is sick of hearing about your struggles and you wonder why you can't just get over it like everyone else seems to be able to do.

I specialize in working with clients struggling with anxiety, depression, and mood dysregulation. My primary treatment modality is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT therapy). I have been trained in and have utilized CBT and DBT, so I draw skills and approaches from those modalities. One of my biggest strengths as a therapist is providing a safe, nonjudgmental, caring space. Shame is at the root of so many of our struggles. Having a safe, loving space is paramount for an individual to work through their shame. I am LGBTQ+ friendly and provide gender-affirming care. Beware of feeling stuck or trapped. I am here to help.

I became a therapist because I saw the importance of sharing our stories without fear of judgment. It’s because of this understanding that I strive to create a space for you to feel safe to be your true self no matter where you are in your mental health journey. When working together, we will focus on your individual needs and goals–these could include anxiety, depression, life transitions, family conflict, or trauma just to name a few. Overall, my goal is to provide support in whatever area you're seeking therapy for.

What I want you to know is that you are not alone in this world; there is hope that you can get through this challenging time in your life. When feeling overwhelmed it is difficult to know where to start when making a change. By integrating social work theories into practice, I recognize that all aspects of a person’s life can impact their wellbeing. Whether it's depression, anxiety, life transitions, or traumatic events I take an approach that helps to understand how the physical, emotional, spiritual, and social aspects of ones’ life interact together to create the individual and together we find the best way to reach your goals.

You're working really hard and things seem fine on the outside, but inside things aren't okay and you feel kinda lost about what to do next? You're lonely and depressed because you're struggling to find someone who really gets your nerdy ways? You're stressed and just salty all the time?

I believe people want to be heard, seen and validated. It can be challenging to find your voice and identity. Depression, Anxiety, Trauma, and Addiction just add to the challenges in life. Trying to navigate all of this alone may feel overwhelming and impossible. You don’t have to do it alone. Together, we will work towards enhancing your emotional resilience and fostering a sense of purpose and fulfillment in your life. I am accepting new clients for in person therapy and tele-health. I work with ages 13 and up.

If you are having difficulty coping with the loss of a loved one; have experienced sexual or other types of abuse; if you feel sad, anxious or worried most of the time; if you are having conflict in a personal, marital or family relationship; if you want to improve your parenting skills, or just want to learn how to manage stressful living, I can help you.
Serving as a minister and earning a PhD in Counseling Psychology equipped me to care for people in crises. Working with vulnerable children and their families or caregivers, also proved to be a valuable foundation for clinical care. In a medical academic setting, training residents in the use of spirituality and psychology as they cared for their patients, deepened my own understanding of just how complex clinical issues can become. This also increased my understanding of the level of stress healthcare providers and victims themselves experience during illness.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
