I enjoy helping individuals work through their issues by processing their trauma. When a person resolves their trauma the rest of their issues in life usually go away. I believe in a strong collaborative relationship with my client. You are in charge of your recovery. My hope is for you to be able to look at your past and present in order to help you identify how they have both helped you and gotten in the way of you being able to achieve your goals in relationships and in life. Connecting the dots from your past experiences to what is currently going on in your life is a strong motivator for change

Making the decision to come to therapy, whether for the first time or returning to it, is a choice that takes a lot of courage! I primarily work with adults with PTSD who struggle with flashbacks, intrusive thoughts, or avoidance behaviors that are impacting their quality of life and relationships with others. In looking at your patterns of thinking, I'll teach you skills to think more flexibly and to move away from feelings of guilt and shame. I also work with people who have diagnoses of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder who may feel scared or uncertain about their diagnosis or symptoms, or in adjusting to a new diagnosis.

My therapeutic approach is integrative & eclectic. I combine Eastern & Western philosophies of healing & draw on several different modalities depending on person’s presenting issues. I believe that the more therapeutic “tools” a clinician has in their “toolbox,” the more resources a clinician can draw on to best support a person’s unique individualized needs & wants throughout the therapeutic process. I will work with you to tune into your true self, recognize your unhelpful or unwanted coping mechanisms and interpersonal patterns, and discover self-compassionate ways of living that support thriving in your life as you define it.

To help manage organic conditions like bipolar disorder and ADHD, I provide psychoeducation and teach useful skills.
I work with professional, motivated people who are ready to overcome long-standing emotional barriers to achieve their fullest potential. Many of my patients are seeking healing from abusive relationships, betrayal trauma, work or military trauma, and early childhood wounds, and they are ready to do the deep inner work needed to overcome PTSD, depression, and anxiety. When they begin therapy, they are ready to explore painful areas they may have pushed away for years, and are in a place where they are ready to challenge themselves to overcome their pain.

That being said, I have worked alongside many people - from severely mentally ill to major anxiety, bipolar and borderline.
I ask that you are ready to make a commitment, to yourself, first. I consider this the first step of the journey - I am here ready to make the commitment alongside you. Think of it as the beginning of falling in love with yourself...your relationships, and ultimately your life. If you are reading this I hope you answer the call, to yourself...it is the beginning of the type of change you have dreamt of, meeting your best self, meeting your soul.

What is the most successful approach to treating bipolar disorder?

Living with bipolar disorder can be challenging, and a number of therapies have been found effective in providing support to patients as they gain the skills to understand and manage the disorder. Family-focused therapy is often helpful for children and teens (the majority of cases develop before age 19); it aims to minimize mood cycling by improving family communication and reducing conflict. It also helps young people navigate the developmental challenges the disorder can create. Cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) and variants such as Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)help patients manage the thoughts and feelings that influence bipolar mood swings as well as develop specific behavioral strategies to counteract them.

What happens in therapy for bipolar disorder?

Because the patterns of mood switching and its triggers differ for each person and can change over time, mood tracking or monitoring becomes a basic way patients learn about the nature of their condition. One of the most common features of therapy is finding a workable method of mood monitoring, in which patients track their daily activities and rate their moods, then use the findings to adjust routines accordingly. Patients learn ways of handling the many stresses that arise in life so that they do not trigger mood swings.

What kinds of problems does therapy help with?

Like many other mental health disorders, BPD is heavily influenced by stress; therapy provides skills for coping with stressors of all kinds. Therapy is extremely important for helping individuals identify the situations that may trigger mood switching, so that mood swings can be prevented. Therapy may especially target recognition of the early stages of mood change so that they can be managed. In addition, therapy helps patients deal with the significant amount of turbulence the disorder can create in relationships and in work life.

What is the goal of therapy for bipolar disorder?

Therapy helps patients set up their lives to maintain stability so that their mood isn’t constantly threatened by daily events. Perhaps the first task of therapy is to educate people about the nature of the disorder. At the same time, a primary goal of therapy is to enhance adherence to drug treatment. Extended periods of mood stability can prompt patients to discontinue medication, triggering relapse, while the early phases of manic episodes can feel so energizing that patients stop medication, ushering in full-blown mania and the altered self-perception that can lead to destructive behaviors. Another major goal of therapy is to understand one’s mood patterns so as to minimize both the frequency and intensity of mood cycling.
