I conceptualize therapy as a collaborative process in which therapist and client determine treatment content and goals, working to create an environment of compassion, challenge and insight capable of motivating those disruptive changes which constitute so much of the meaning of therapy. In attempting to individualize treatment, I cultivate an integrative responsiveness utilizing those techniques that seem best able to serve the client's needs and promote therapeutic goals. Often these goals extend beyond symptom relief to include the enhancement of psychological capacities and resources through self exploration and discovery in the context of a safe and authentic therapeutic relationship.

Life presents challenges sometimes. Learning how to access our resiliency, explore negative thought patterns, and strengthen new positive beliefs assists us in creating and maintaining a thriving daily life. I recognize that each person is diverse, having a unique family, social, and cultural history, and that healing and growth can be dependent on numerous factors. I use therapy methods that help bridge communication with children, youth and adults. I hold also hold BA in studio art that contributes to the creativity element of my work with individuals.

My work is shaped by my training and experience. I specialize in adults and adolescents/pre-teens who suffer with OCD and anxiety disorders such as panic attacks, hair pulling, skin picking, general/social anxiety, agoraphobia, and other phobias. While OCD/anxiety is my primary specialty, it often occurs with other issues such as depression, life changes/transitions, like divorce, pregnancy, work or school, all of which can be difficult to face without help. When we suffer from anxiety based issues, we can often miss or lose the joy that is present in our lives. I am here to help you get your life back from the grips of OCD/anxiety.

I use a holistic approach to therapy. I primarily utilize a method called Internal Family Systems therapy to help each client gain access to understanding how they have come to take on certain beliefs and behaviors in their lifetime that have led to unhappiness, dissatisfaction and emotional burden. I believe that by assisting clients to connect with themselves and release these burdens, they can then be empowered to live a life that is authentically led with confidence, clarity, creativity, courage, compassion, curiosity and calm.

I have an eclectic style, utilizing therapeutic modalities such as psychodynamic, Cognitive-Behavioral (CBT), Dialectical-Behavioral (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, etc… with a Strengths-Based and Humanistic approach. My eclectic style represents my understanding that every client has individualized clinical needs. While being specialty trained and certified in specific clinical interventions, I believe the therapeutic relationship-building a strong, trusting, rapport-is at the core of my clinical work; that trust of relationship helps heal wounds of the past, allowing one to thrive in the present.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
