I am particularly drawn to working with folks ages 14-25, focusing on areas such as helping you understand your learning profiles, managing symptoms of overwhelm such as depression and anxiety, processing trauma and grief, as well as supporting social skills development.
Are you struggling to find your place within your community or within yourself? Together we can seek out clarity, navigate transition, and strengthen relationships. Our therapeutic work centers around creating a deeper understanding of self, diving into your beliefs and values, and the cycles we play out in relationships with others.

I have supported clients struggling with grief, anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, stress, transitions, identity questions, and trauma.
My counseling approach is based on the belief that everyone can benefit from support and listening. I strive to provide a warm and comfortable environment, making use of humor, silence, and empathy. Research shows that the best indicator of counseling success is the strength of the counseling relationship, and to that end, we will begin our work by building the relationship foundation together.

Depression, anxiety, and despair invite us to seek out deeper connections and growth. The intimacy that develops in the therapeutic relationship is different from what passes for communication in most peoples' daily lives. In the I and Thou, of genuine therapy, there is no barrier. The goal is to be able to totally see and to be seen. Pretense, persona, the need to impress, many aspects of false perception all fall away. There are no barriers. It is a way of healing soul sickness that is challenging to both therapist and patient while at the same time being effective and fulfilling. Join me for an initial exploratory meeting.

I work with individuals who are experiencing the effects of chronic trauma, abuse, neglect, grief, loss, depression, anxiety, and/or challenging life transitions.
I have limited availability for a few new clients. Sometimes we may feel stuck. Sometimes life can become overwhelming. Sometimes we have deep emotional wounds that have long limited our ability to experience peace, joy, fulfillment, connection, and love. Sometimes we just need someone to listen, be supportive, and offer another perspective. According to Kristin Neff, "The only way to eventually free ourselves from debilitating pain is to be with it as it is. The only way out is through." I hope to offer you this space to alleviate suffering and increase self-compassion, in order to help you more effectively manage life's stressors.

I love to help people who want to grow. You may sense that your anxiety or depression or relationship troubles are signs of things you don't yet know about yourself, opportunities for personal growth you’ve postponed. If you’re at this crossroads; if you recognize that something has held you back; if you’re ready to dig in and work hard; if you want to be more effective and creative in your work, more relaxed and intimate in your relationships; then we could be a good fit.

I received my masters degree in social work from New York University in 1987. I practice psychotherapy with a combined perspective of psychodynamic, insight-oriented and cognitive/behavioral techniques. I see psychotherapy as a means to explore the connections between past and present relationships, experiences, and emotional states, for the purpose of creating life changes. I focus upon the relationship between therapist and patient as the catalyst for this self-awareness and growth, creating the foundation for addressing depression, anxiety, trauma, relationships, life transitions, attachment issues, and parenting concerns.

Over the years, I have recognized that each of us has a wisdom that resides within. This wisdom within our mind/body system holds the solution. We are designed for balance- yes, we do get off-balance. I will help you understand what your body/mind is attempting to communicate. It is often a simple process. We all have beliefs that originate from our culture, our society, and our family. Some beliefs are helpful, some are not. It is our beliefs that guide our behavior. Beliefs are the 'fuel' that move us. We will discover the 'outdated' beliefs.

You've taken a big step by looking for someone to talk with. Perhaps you're ready to change the cycle of difficult emotions and unhealthy patterns of behavior. I would like to help you challenge what keeps you stuck and support you in making positive changes towards your goal. Life stressors lead to patterns of negative thinking made worse by negative emotions that keep us from moving forward or living a more fulfilling life. Past traumas can alter your coping and block your happiness. Don't go it alone. I am ready to be at your side and do the hard work you know needs to be done.

Our natural state is wellness. Yet many of us feel sick in our souls. Empty and discouraged, we seek creative bandaids to contain our despair : pursuits of money, relationships, sex, achievement, adventure, good works, productivity. Even health practices can become compulsive activities that fail to mend a persistent sense of inner broken-ness. Mindful Psychotherapy cultivates inherent wellness in the midst of life difficulty and opens the potential for real and lasting change. I am now honored to offer Mindfulness for couples as a certified Dialogue Therapist, a powerful time limited intervention : https://young-eisendrath.com/d

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
