My focus is on helping clients discover their authentic self and to replace unhelpful behaviors that no longer serve them. I work to help teens, adults, and families learn skills needed to manage anxiety, overcome depression, improve communication, and implement new ways of managing stress rather than turning to harmful coping strategies.

I have practiced psychotherapy for over 25 years working with children, teens, adults and families in school settings from the elementary through the college level as well as in my private practice.
I believe in everyone's innate capacity to heal. Everyone deserves a safe and supportive therapeutic environment which can allow one to connect to all parts of oneself and lead to a greater capacity for self awareness and self compassion. Creating this space of safety, trust and unconditional regard for my client guides all my interactions and interventions. We will work collaboratively to explore how your family history, life experiences and current stressors contribute to the issues that bring you to therapy so that you can begin to shift unhelpful patterns of thoughts and behavior that are holding you back in life.

My clinical background includes working with the often co-occurring issues of trauma, a wide range of mental health issues and addiction with diverse populations of adults, college students and adolescents in community and school settings.
Therapy provides an opportunity to engage with life's challenges in more adaptive and meaningful ways. Sometimes we get out of balance, are tired of struggling with old patterns, are coping with loss or are in transition, and need some extra help. There's no need to go it alone! It is important to me to create a safe, engaging and non-judgmental therapeutic space within which we work collaboratively on your goals. I approach my work with a spirit of hope, openness and attunement to the therapeutic relationship.

I am a family-oriented psychotherapist. I work individually with adults and youth, and with families together. How we see ourselves in our families - past, present, future - often provides the foundation for how we form our initial identity. Our identity, in turn, shapes how we act at home and in the world. The therapeutic process provides first a mirror to reflect our own sometimes hidden selves, and a light to gain unique insight into who we are and what we are here to do in this world.

Life can be hard, and we don't have to go it alone. Change is possible, and I offer support to those who are ready to make positive changes in their life. I approach each session with curiosity, directness, and humor. My goal is to help you recognize patterns, thoughts, or behaviors that no longer serve you. I work with adults, teens, and adolescents. I use a directive approach emphasizing evidence-supported tools that are foundational to mental and physical health. I believe the path to fulfillment is a process, not an ultimate destination. By clarifying your values, we can begin to identify both long and short term goals in life.

As a young girl is Pittsburgh, I saw people around me being unhappy, confused, not knowing what to do. I wanted to understand why they got themselves in trouble, and why they were troubled. I was curious, and sad.
Over the years I learned what those unhappy people could have done. My education began as a teacher of young children. Then I became a caseworker helping people with parenting, adoptions, and the miseries of poverty. Finally, I trained to be a therapist, and treated troubled teenagers, adults with illness, and the old and dying.

I work with adolescents and young adults to strengthen awareness, joy, and sense of power in relationship to self, others, and systems you interact with. We are living in a tumultuous time in which many systems and institutions are actively constricting aliveness in our natural world and within us as individuals. This can manifest in feeling angry, apathetic, or powerless, or leave you searching for meaning and how to move forward. I work with individuals to cultivate your wild and authentic self as a beautiful form of vulnerability, resistance, and living wholeheartedly.
