I am licensed in Connecticut and Vermont. I am an EMDRIA certified therapist, approved consultant and EMDR trainer. I use a warm and supportive, yet semi-structured and intentional approach for both in-person and telehealth sessions. I do both short-term (EMDR Intensives) and more comprehensive (long-term) therapy. I can work with you to construct a plan to overcome life's challenges and help move you to a more desired outcome. I use systems theory (how we interact with the world and ourselves) and EMDR therapy (helping brains naturally rewire in a more adaptive way), in combination with IFS and various other approaches.

Drawing from a blend of mindfulness, IFS ( Internal Family Systems), and CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), I support people to increase self-awareness in order to recognize patterns of thinking and behavior that can cause stress, pain and insecurity in their lives.
The quality of the therapeutic relationship is an important part of the healing process. With 27 years of experience counseling adolescents, adults and families, I offer a warm and trusting environment. My approach is client-centered, nonjudgmental and collaborative.

Waitlist for new clients
I utilize family systems theory to help clients understand their role in the patterns they are stuck in with themselves and in important relationships.
Waitlist for fall! Oftentimes clients come to therapy stuck in patterns that are not serving them well, and they do not understand how they ended up where they are. My goal in working with clients is to help them know, understand, and have compassion for themselves, and in the case of couples and families, for each other as well. I provide a safe and nurturing environment where clients are free to express their thoughts and feelings, and I work to help them make sense of it all. My goal is to meet clients where they are, and give them the tools to get to where they want to be emotionally and psychologically.

I incorporate IFS, narrative, attachment, & somatic approaches to help clients identify triggers, release limiting beliefs, explore identity, foster emotional health, enhance worthiness, & heal from trauma.
My practice is rooted in compassion, curiosity, and self-discovery. My goal is to provide a safe container for you to bring all parts of yourself forward, explore what is blocking you from your joy, connect with your inner wisdom, & strengthen your ability to create loving connections with both yourself and others. I enjoy working with folks interested in delving deeper within themselves with curiosity and openness. Together, we'll identify different parts of your self and the stories they hold, creating space to rewrite your narratives from a place of empowerment and work towards meaningful change.

Therapy is a journey of self-exploration and discovery. Finding the parts of oneself to accentuate, embrace, and accept is part of this journey. Often, we focus on the things holding us back, depression, anxiety, worry, feelings of inadequacy or anger, regret and loss. Discovering what's below these symptoms can lead to a peaceful clarity and compassion. Being able to appreciate our experiences, grow from them, and accept their place within us provides a fertile environment from which we can grow.

Being a person is tough. You might be considering therapy because you’re feeling unsettled or not like yourself. You’re questioning your decisions and replaying situations in your head. You’d like to bring more of who you are to your relationships, but you've lost sight of who that person is. And you're ready to find your way back to yourself. It's time to feel more ease and confidence in who you are and how you interact with the world.

I believe each of us is a unique work of art in progress. Therapy is a process of discovering how your deepest self wants to be expressed in the world and then finding the inner resources to live that out. During darker periods of life, we might question the meaning of things, feel flawed or broken, and long for what’s out of reach. These times can signify a loss of connection to our innermost selves and be a call to a new way of living. Our work together will explore pains and patterns that continue to show themselves, family and social systems that shape self-concept, and inner workings of personality that make you who you are.

I believe that taking responsibility for ourselves and choosing how to respond to our circumstances is always the best path forward, regardless of the struggles we're facing. While initially uncomfortable, this approach ultimately increases self-confidence, improves relationships, and generates resilience and adaptability to life's challenges. With these concepts in mind, I work closely with clients who want to slow down, assess their situation, identify choice-points, and take actionable steps toward improving what is within their control while simultaneously learning to accept what is outside of their control.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists

What is Internal Family Systems therapy?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.

How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.

Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.

How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
