I have many years experience as a personal fitness trainer and recognize the importance of a positive body image for improved mental and physical health.
My therapeutic goal is to tailor treatment to each individual's needs, situations and personalities through a collaborative process. I seek the optimal and most beneficial approach to the individual's needs, whether child, adolescent, adult, couples, or families. I have over 30 years experience working in the field with a wide variety of client populations. I have spent many years working with youth and special needs individuals who displayed severe challenging behaviors. This has included developmental disabilities, autism and those with self-harm and severe anger issues. My overall approach is holistic, integrative, and strength and evidence based.

You've taken a big step by looking for someone to talk with. I would like to help you understand of how things have become difficult so you can make your life work for you. When we can see and accept the emotions or challenges that leave us stuck and unfulfilled we can step back and allow our strength move us into what feels right more functional and healthy. If you are reaching out for help it shows a sign of strength that I believe will allow you and I to work towards your goals.

In a nutshell, my approach to psychotherapy is best described as a collaborative exploration of how our past experiences affect how we experience life in the present. Through better understanding of our own internal and external worlds, greater integration of emotional experience can occur, more positive meaning about ourselves, others, and life in general can be made, and authentic personal growth will result. Not only can distressing symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, and the effects of trauma, be reduced, but more full, satisfying, and resilient lives can be achieved.

We work with both mandated and voluntary seekers of treatment services, because that’s where our experience lies.
It’s the struggle between not being understood and not being able to communicate your needs. There’s a solution, but its only temporary and causes just as many problems as it solves. Wallowing in shame, doubt and embarrassment is starting to weigh too heavy. Conflicting racing thoughts and emotions make the situation that much worse.

For couples, I pull from several approaches, including Gott man, EFT and Terry Real.
One of the best things my dad ever said to me was: Unless you believe in reincarnation, it’s time to be happy now. (Personally, I think this applies even if you do believe in reincarnation.) How to make the most of our time, our relationships, and ourselves - for me, these are the key questions that led me to become a marriage and family therapist. Along with traditional talk therapy, I use EMDR (if desired), as well as IFS, to help you work through present challenges and past difficult experiences so that you can live more freely in the here and now - unencumbered by old self-defeating beliefs and fears.

Everyone comes to psychotherapy with a unique set of concerns; thus, every course of psychotherapy is different. Part of my role is learning how I can be helpful to you in particular. In general, I view therapy as a place for increasing self-awareness. Often, we don't fully understand why we go about our lives as we do - and why we have the difficulties that we have. Without adequate self-awareness, we tend to unwittingly repeat the same patterns. It is only when we understand ourselves as we truly are that we become free to choose new possibilities.

The single most important factor for successful therapy, whether you're a man or a wo man, is to connect with a robust and confident therapist who resonates with you.
Have "woke therapists" soured you on counseling? Have you been unable to find a non-political, energetic and engaging therapist that fits your personality and value system? Whether you're dealing with anxiety, struggling to get out of bed, divorce, anger, or simply trying to get through each day, I will change your perception of what you think therapy is like in today's socially polarized climate. For both men and wo men, direct and honest talk is always the best (often the fastest) way to wellness. With a practical, common-sense approach, I will provide the help you need to get back on track. Call for a free 15 minute consultation!

Regardless of the form our individual struggles take in this world, I believe the solution is sourced from the same place: recognition of who we truly are, perfect expressions of love. My approach to therapy combines spiritual, scientific (quantum physics), and psychological truths. The fundamental premise of everything I convey to clients is that all of our apparent problems are in our minds and are very much within our power to change. I have recently found that I have a strength and love for teaching couples how to communicate authentically, lovingly, and constructively to work through misunderstandings.

I am a bilingual psychologist Master who enjoys working with individual adults from different backgrounds. I strive to provide a place where you are supported and safe to begin to explore what troubles you. Together, we can explore the past and present to understand and let go of old patterns that hold you back from living a more fulfilling life. At others time, it might be more important to focus on the here and now. In my 10 years practice, I have worked with individuals who struggled with a wide range of issues, depression, anxiety, interpersonal issues, life transition, grief and trauma.

I believe that by being a witness to your experience, in a hu man to hu man way, we can work together to understand behavior patterns that used to work when they needed to, but maybe not so much right now.
I believe that everyone, despite what label or diagnoses we have, deserves to be treated with fairness and empathy. We are not our past. I find great opportunity in challenging situations. My philsophy is that we are all doing the best we can based on our level of awareness. Every single being can work to expand on this. I see my role as working with you to shine a light on blind spots, thereby increasing this awareness. By doing so, we can address behavior and thought patterns which may have caused disruption in your life. Let's work to understand these parts of Self a little more.

I have qualified to administer the Gott man Relationship Checkup, and work with couples through the Gott man Method of therapy.
The ideal clients I am reaching out to are interested in participating in teletherapy, either individually or as couples. Due to a number of breaking developments, I have decided to convert my long-running practice to online therapy. I have professional counseling licenses in Vermont, MIssouri, and Illinois. I work from Missouri. Furthermore, I am seeking clients who prefer to work outside of the insurance system. I am rebooting my practice to offer high-qualify and affordable therapy. If you are interested, all you would need is Skype or Zoom (both are free downloads). I am offering 45 minute sessions for $120.

Now, you may have realized the way you are thinking, feeling, or behaving is no longer working for you. Let's see what we can do together to overcome this difficult time.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
