Therapy can offer support by helping explore your inner world and emotional experiences. If you are experiencing a challenge or change in your life, questioning your purpose or enjoy exploring life existential meaning that is causing feelings of depression, anxiety, grief, or having relationship problems. Please reach out for a consultation. As a therapist I create a trusting, judgment free supportive environment where you are welcome to explore your true self.

I am licensed in Connecticut and Vermont. I am an EMDRIA certified therapist, approved consultant and EMDR trainer. I use a warm and supportive, yet semi-structured and intentional approach for both in-person and telehealth sessions. I do both short-term (3 x EMDR Intensive Programs) and more comprehensive (long-term) therapy. I can work with you to construct a plan to tackle life's challenges and help move you to a more desired outcome. I use systems theory (how we interact with the world and ourselves) and EMDR therapy (helping brains naturally rewire in a more adaptive way), in combination with IFS and various other approaches.

Feeling stuck? Wondering how you got to where you are in life? Relationship issues? Overwhelmed? Sad? Wanting to make a change but don't know where to begin? These are often the concerns my clients bring into therapy. Through our work together, we find the way forward; no issue is too big or too small. Counseling can help and contrary to popular belief, it can be fun and healing at the same time!

Developing a strong therapeutic relationship continues to prove to be the most effective factor in creating change in therapy. Through the therapeutic relationship individuals and families create the opportunity to develop a greater level of understanding and acceptance of themselves and others. They then can develop new opportunities for more positive and fulfilling meaning in their lives.

Through our work together, I want all of my clients to know two things; one is that they have value that cannot be taken away by anything or anyone and the other is that they do not have to struggle with mental health issues alone. Therapy is the place where you can be authentic and honest about struggles and can feel validated and heard rather than judged or dismissed.

Individuals/Groups/Couples. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. Life happens, so it helps to have someone who will really listen, without judgement. When we lay down our burdens, we can feel lighter, heal places that were hurt, and find a way back to ourselves. Therapy can be about coming to deeply know and understand ourselves; with help learning skills for managing life, emotions and relationships, claiming self-worth and a sense of competence. I support people with holistic, research based psychotherapy. ACT, IFS, ARC, DBT, Somatics, CBT and Jungian components. Ask me about group therapy.

I believe that taking responsibility for ourselves and choosing how to respond to our circumstances is always the best path forward, regardless of the struggles we're facing. While initially uncomfortable, this approach ultimately increases self-confidence, improves relationships, and generates resilience and adaptability to life's challenges. With these concepts in mind, I work closely with clients who want to slow down, assess their situation, identify choice-points, and take actionable steps toward improving what is within their control while simultaneously learning to accept what is outside of their control.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
