My name is Vanessa, and I am the owner of Rooted in Care Counseling. I am passionate about supporting people through their unique experiences with mental health, and specialize in working with Black and other People of Color. I have always strived to be aware of how outside systemic issues and factors contribute to disparities in mental health care, particularly in communities of color. As a Black therapist, I believe that comprehensive mental health treatment acknowledges and accounts for how discrimination and other social barriers can affect one’s ability to process their experiences and safely navigate the world.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Pennsylvania, who specializes in Trauma and Child/Family Therapy, respectively. Along with my clinical work, I have also been published in The Oxford Handbook of Sexual and Gender Minority Mental Health, where I discuss the intersections of race, LGBT+ identity, and mental health
