I am a transitioning Clinical Mental Health program resident and a Marriage and Family Therapist. I am pursuing my licensure as a licensed mental health clinician. I am a military spouse who has traveled the world and seen many families and soldiers face the struggles and aftermath of combat and the aftereffects of families being separated. I am a mother of four who has coached my children on navigating through the challenges of life development. I am a cancer survivor. I am relatable. I am dedicated to serving this community for those who are battling mental health concerns.

As a marriage and family therapist, I specialize in working with and understanding the problems of families and couples, but I also work with individuals and groups because relationship challenges are pervasive, and no one lives in a vacuum.
When relationships get stuck in an unproductive pattern it is usually because people are reacting to the hurt rather than responding in ways that can solve problems. As a marriage and family therapist I specialize in helping people find strength based solutions to address the challenges of managing relationships. The systemic approach focuses on the interactions of people (families, groups, communities) more than individual symptoms; however, this approach is beneficial when working with groups, families, couples, and individuals.

Over the past four years, I have worked with individuals suffering from mental health issues, reuniting families after separations, parent coaching, processing depression and anxiety, and marital counseling.
I have been a licensed Mental Health Counselor (licensed in Nevada and Virginia), providing care to individuals and families for over six years. I started my career working in a county jail, working with offenders. Although I have a strong passion for working with offenders to reintegrate into society, my career took another path four years ago with finding a passion for working with the LGBTQ+ community, children, teens, couples, and families as they overcome daily struggles in their life.

Has life gotten harder despite your best efforts? Do you find yourself exhausted, emotionally and physically, and your usual "pick me ups" don't seem to be working? Events such as marriage, birth, death, graduation and divorce, even when positive, can bring up unexpected emotions that you need support with. We don't always realize it in the moment, but receiving outside support through therapy may be what you need.

My specialties are marriage and family therapy and forensic services.
If you are looking over these therapist sites, you are in the market to find some help. It can be daunting to call a therapist you have never met and try to find someone to understand you. You should take your time, interview therapists and find a good fit. It is okay to shop and to decide not to make an appointment. Or, if you choose to call and come in, please get to know me in the first session. Ask questions. I will outline the way I work, explain my philosophy and help you voice your goals for treatment. I will listen but will also tell you what I think. If directness is for you, I am your therapist.

Areas of concentration include anxiety, anger, stress, parenting, teens, sexuality, marriage, trauma and major mental illnesses.
Throughout our lives we find ourselves in times of uncertainty or times when much is asked of us. How we respond to such moments will define how we think of ourselves in the time ahead. While there may be a natural inclination to turn away from the moment and think only, "This too shall pass", just how it will pass has a great deal to do with the thinking one does and the actions one takes. Therapy should provide a better understanding of who we are and why we act as we do. Therapy works best when it is to the point, clear, and practical.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
