We are also a trauma informed practice, trained in EMDR.
You are always enough regardless. Just show up as you are; it is okay and welcomed. This is a place of gentleness, empathy, compassion, and authenticity. We are here to both figuratively and literally walk alongside you in your therapy journey either as an individual, couple, or family. Here it is not about what is wrong with you; it is about what has happened to you OR about the negative cycle that you have been stuck in. We make sense of it together. Mutually, we make sense of the brokenness, the pain, the relational distress. All behavior has context and fractures in relationships can be healed.

Currently, I am in training in EMDR and have begun under supervision to offer it in my practice.
I work with diverse and often marginalized individuals. I have experience working with neurodivergent individuals, including those on the spectrum and members of the queer community. Many of my clients have complex trauma or are experiencing major life transitions, others have personality disorders. All of them are unique individuals seeking to heal or work on their personal development. I strive to provide a safe and inclusive environment for my client's therapeutic work. I believe that my clients are capable individuals seeking tools, perspectives, and knowledge to help them navigate their life's path.

How does EMDR work? Instead of extensive verbal discussion, EMDR focuses on altering emotions, thoughts, & behaviors linked to distressing experiences.
Clients on my caseload are frequently referred to me because of their need for something in addition to talk therapy: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing ( EMDR). It’s most renowned for addressing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, however, its applications extend to many other mental health concerns as well: depression, grief, and anxiety. EMDR is used once emotion regulation skills have been developed, allowing individuals to access and reprocess traumatic memories safely.

My specialty is using EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to assist with resolving issues as you access your innate healing potential.
I obtained my MSW from the State University of New York at Buffalo and my experience includes working with adults in primarily outpatient settings, using a variety of therapeutic strategies to assist clients with coping with uncomfortable mental health symptoms and life transitions. The human connection is what brings people to therapy and the therapeutic relationship has the potential to be one of trust, safety, and acceptance. In over 21 years of experience as a psychotherapist, I believe it is also just as important to offer results-oriented therapeutic strategies to assist my clients with reaching their goals.

I am also an EMDR certified provider, helping clients “digest” negatively stored memories in a more adaptive way.
Sometimes people seek counseling with a clear goal of what they want and need. Other times, people aren't sure how counseling can help them, but they know they need support to feel better or make changes in their lives. Whether you are looking to improve yourself or your relationships, let go of past emotional pain, or learn skills that will improve your communication and ability to manage stress, counseling can help you turn the page and begin a new chapter in your life.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
