My work is trauma informed, rooted in attachment and relationship, ecotherapy, somatic and transpersonal psychology, and is supported and informed by research and neuroscience.
Through a holistic and integrative approach I support individuals and families to navigate the unique challenges that life has unfolded for them. Whether our work takes place in my office or out in nature, I help my clients identify, cultivate and nourish their strengths and resources. Through our work my clients deepen their connection to themselves, others and the natural world. As these connections grow I support my clients to uncover limiting patterns that inhibit their relationships, creativity and happiness so they can nourish new ways of moving and relating in the world that support authenticity, ease, and joy.

I frequently draw from from experiential, psychodynamic, somatic, mindfulness, and parts work techniques.
Are you seeking trauma-informed care that integrates mind and body? Does cognitive behavioral therapy feel limiting and impersonal to you? Are you curious about cultivating a deeper, more compassionate relationship with your inner emotional life? Is it important to you that your therapist is LGBTQ+ affirming and social justice oriented? If so, my approach may be a good fit for you. I enjoy working with individuals (16+) and couples who are coping with issues related to anxiety, depression, relationships, life transitions, academic challenges, identity, self-esteem, loss, and trauma.

I believe the mind and body are connected and that in processing thoughts (or core beliefs of self) it’s important to work on somatic cues in the body to shift patterns of avoidance, depression, stress, and hyper vigilance.
I empower others to live the life they imagine. I am passionate about working alongside those on a journey towards healing, whether from internal struggle, grief, or significant trauma leading to low mood or anxiety. I am qualified in the judicial system as an expert in family and trauma therapy. I am a certified EMDR therapist and consultant -started in 2010. My focus is to strengthen your core sense of self to disrupt negative internal dialogue, memories and somatic responses that lead to distress. In family work, I focus on secure attachment patterns, and increasing attunment and co-regulation between a child and caregiver(s).

I use Brainspotting, somatic interventions, IFS techniques, self-compassion, and EMDR in sessions.
Does everyone rely on you to be steady? Are you naturally attuned to what others need? Do you ever wish someone would care for you as deeply as you care for everyone else? I specialize in helping highly sensitive, intense, and/or empathic individuals and couples give their relational gifts back to themselves so that they may find greater ease, healing and joy. Many of my clients were parentified as children, leading them to believe that their worth is tied to what they do rather than who they are. My goal is to assist you in deprogramming from such beliefs so you are free to return to your authentic self and your personal power.

Life was meant to be savored, not just endured. Yet, instability and disconnection can weigh us down, stealing our emotional freedom and hindering our ability to connect with ourselves and others. Instead of simply telling you to "think positively," which can feel dismissive and superficial, I offer a different approach. Our therapy journey will be a creative and personalized collaboration, drawing on my professional expertise and your unique life experiences. I offer traditional psychotherapy and embodied healing through Somatic Experiencing.

My work is shaped by psychodynamic and somatic approaches.
I offer individual therapy for adults and adolescents, and specialize in working with women and teens dealing with the impact of sexual assault, childhood abuse, or other trauma. Other areas of clinical interest include relationship issues, life transitions, anxiety, and identity questions. I believe therapy is a collaborative process that allows us to be deeply seen and heard, and to see ourselves in new and transformative ways. It can build self-esteem and strengthen our sense of who we are and how we fit into the world. As we understand ourselves more fully, relationships with others become richer and more fulfilling. Therapy can strengthen our ability to adapt and adjust to the changing circumstances of our lives, freeing us up to respond more flexibly to the world around us and to experience a more enlivened way of being. For trauma survivors who experience overwhelming waves of shame and fear, a lurking sense of unease, or confusing physical sensations, therapy can help calm the mind and the nervous system, allowing you to move from reliving the past to feeling grounded, present, and whole in mind and body.

I pull from a somatic informed approach that incorporates the intuitive wisdom of our bodies and nervous systems as a guide in relational work.
I have developed a great appreciation for how messy, confusing, challenging and fulfilling our connections with others can be. I thoroughly enjoy working in the trenches with partners as we navigate whatever reasons they have for seeking a therapeutic space. An emotion-focused approach compliments my attachment-centered lens to systems work by enabling me to help clients tease out the "details" from the more prominent patterns at play. I have a significant interest in trust recovery work within relationships and have experience working with the delicate nature of boundary violations (affairs, addictions, etc.).

Address overwhelming physical and emotional distress through movement, somatic experiences, guided relaxation, and specific breathing exercises.
I work with people who have tried everything and are still feeling stuck. Lingering trauma can cast a long shadow over life, causing feelings of dread, shame, and a constant sense that something bad is lurking around the corner, even when everything seems fine. It may lead to a perpetual state of high-alert, distracting the mind with worrying thoughts and exhausting the body through constant tension and anxiety. Others struggle with the isolation that comes from eating disorders and skewed body image, or they might belong to families weighed down by old pain, caught in frustrating cycles of arguments and guilt.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
