I completed my BA in English and Journalism from Wake Forest University and my M.S.Ed. in Mental Health Counseling at the University of Pennsylvania. My studies were multiculturally informed and focused on serving LGBTQIA+ individuals, providing mental health care to underserved communities, and relationship/intimacy counseling. I am currently a resident in counseling working towards LPC licensure in the state of Virginia. My aim is to create a brave space for you to feel safe being vulnerable without judgment. I provide a culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and strengths-based approach.

Finding the right therapist is challenging, it's not just about how we look on paper, but also about our connection that determines the right fit. I specialize in trauma and incorporate a holistic approach on healing because it impacts us on different levels. Trauma can manifest itself in many different ways whether we see it as personality disorders, fear of intimacy/rejection/abandonment, attachment, depression, anxiety, anger, PTSD, eating disorders, etc. By healing the underlying trauma and doing the deeper work, it offers us a more permanent alternative to temporary symptom management.

I think of psychotherapy as a creative partnership between client and therapist, accepting the client, just as they are, while also working with them towards lasting change. I strive to create a warm, safe environment, using culturally relevant, evidence-based approaches that foster collaboration and trust. We'll work to improve self-efficacy, develop healthier relationships with self and others, and practice skills to regulate emotions that have interfered with your quality of life. My orientation is trauma-informed and theoretically integrative, using cognitive-behavioral, biosocial, interpersonal process and attachment theories.

My approach to therapy begins with forming mutual trust. I believe in the importance of the therapeutic relationship, the right 'fit', and that a foundation of support and connection can empower you to explore your past and understand how it is impacting your 'now'.

I received a degree in Psychology and minor in Family Studies from James Madison University . After graduating from JMU, I received my Masters of Counselor Education at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. I specialize in working collaboratively with teens and adults to heal and accomplish their life goals. With years of experience in school counseling, I have helped individuals work through issues related to anxiety, self-esteem, body image, disordered eating, life transitions and development of healthy relationships

Alexis Arnette, LPC Alexis Arnette is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia who has been practicing since 2015. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Spelman College and a Master of Arts Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Alexis believes two things very strongly: that all health starts in the gut and that behavioral is the dance we do to the emotional music in our hearts. She feels that counseling is a journey, and as a therapist, it is her pleasure to be a fellow traveler with those around her, as there is no person immune to the inherent tragedies of existence.

I am a licensed clinical social worker and received my academic training at Columbia University and Virginia Commonwealth University. I work with clients struggling with a variety of challenges including anxiety, depression, eating disorders, trauma, grief, loss, and life transitions.

As a former Division 1 Athlete and current Trailing Spouse, I am here to serve the ATHLETE and EXPAT communities. Athletes, you might have access to free resources at your school/university/college but sometimes it's nice to talk to someone outside of your athletic department because they might be part of the problem and you might feel more comfortable talking about your struggles with someone else "gets it." Expats, we know RMO-Ps aren't always available when we need them and local therapists might not be able to relate to our lifestyle or culture. I understand life inside the bubble without living inside of yours.

Maternal mental health has become my expertise, particularly in addressing the complexities of postpartum anxiety, depression, and relationship changes that happen postpartum. I have a strong passion for equipping parents with the vital skills required to cultivate a wholesome and nurturing environment for their children while also juggling the realitys of modern day living.

My practice is based in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy where we examine how thoughts, feelings and behaviors all connect helping us to see core beliefs that may not be serving us. This leads to identifying and changing behavior patterns that are not working- ones that may ultimately hold you back from experiencing more fulfilling relationships and a more meaningful life. I am a psychologist in the Tysons Corner area and have been seeing clients for 34 years. My goal is to create a therapy experience that feels respectul, supportive, safe and yet challenging. As a therapist I work in a number of ways. I use cognitive behavioral therapy, because I believe strongly in the power of words. One goal is to identify self-destructive thought patterns and to develop new empowering patterns. I also use insight therapy to release the hold of old perceptions and feelings which are no longer helpful and to consciously choose the life you want now.
