Pursuing therapy takes courage. The process can often feel empowering as well as anxiety-provoking. Not accepting new clients
NOTE:. As of Jan. 1, 2022, my practice is closed to new clients. Past clients should feel free to contact me to see if I have availability to see them but should be aware that I currently do only televideo sessions. Making the decision to seek therapy is an important one, and it generally stirs up a mixture of feelings, including both excitement and anxiety. I focus on helping my clients feel safe in sharing their difficulties and goals and in assessing their needs. I work to help clients to find meaning and strategies to move past old patterns to live well in the present.

Is your life or relationship not looking the way you hoped it would? Chances are a series of events occurred, making it feel difficult to find your way forward. It probably feels like you’re swimming upstream, but the current is too strong, and you can’t catch your breath. You have reached a point where you realized something needs to change because navigating these challenges alone has been too difficult, especially when also experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, conflict, or dissatisfaction in your life.

Mikami Puchon, LCSW (they/them) is a non binary, mixed race therapist who specializes in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) psychotherapy for adults. Mikami believes that we all have the ability to process through and find healing within ourselves. EMDR helps to facilitate this process through bilateral stimulation (audio, visual, or tactile) which mirrors REM sleep eye movement (OR our innate ability to process daily events, memories, emotions, and sensations). EMDR is not hypnosis, but rather, using our own resources to reprocess where we feel “stuck”.

The Sex Therapist you never knew you needed! When client’s come to my office to seek therapy, the one part of themselves that is most often neglected is sexuality! Most people don’t even mention sexual beliefs, curiosities, behaviors, or attitudes until I ask. I believe that sexuality is so much a part of who we are, there is no way to fully heal and truly be at peace if our sexuality is not explored! As well as specializing in Sex Therapy, I’m also a clinical trauma therapist!

My BA is from New York University and my MA is from Catholic University. I have extensive post-graduate training from the Washington School of Psychiatry, The SensoriMotor Psychotherapy Institute, and from EMDR of Greater Washington.

The word trauma means “wound” and so many of life's experiences can leave us feeling hurt, isolated, and confused. Everyone needs help from time to time, to heal from past experiences, navigate important life decisions, and learn how to cope with whatever circumstances they are dealt. I believe in a collaborative and creative therapeutic process that utilizes a variety of modalities to suit the needs of my clients. I also use expressive arts techniques to harness the healing power of creativity and self-expression.
