I use a trauma-informed perspective and specialize in working with children and adults who have experienced domestic and sexual violence; grief, and loss.
The word trauma means “wound” and so many of life's experiences can leave us feeling hurt, isolated, and confused. Everyone needs help from time to time, to heal from past experiences, navigate important life decisions, and learn how to cope with whatever circumstances they are dealt. I believe in a collaborative and creative therapeutic process that utilizes a variety of modalities to suit the needs of my clients. I also use expressive arts techniques to harness the healing power of creativity and self-expression.

My specialties include grief and loss, health psychology for chronic illness, mind/body and experiential treatment of chronic pain and physical symptoms, anxiety, depression, and life transitions.
Congratulations on taking the first step toward a major life change! The decision to begin counseling is an immense gesture of self love and courage. Finding the right fit is so important to the therapeutic process. Whatever brings you here - the loss of a loved one, a major life transition, troubling relationship patterns, chronic illness or pain, or feeling stuck and confused about the future - will be explored with openness, curiosity, and acceptance. Things can feel easier, when explored without shame or judgment. I believe that we all have the innate ability to heal with the right connection and understanding.

I work from a trauma-informed and attachment-focused approach with clients experiencing grief and loss, relationship issues, trauma, anxiety, and depression.
We can all find ourselves overwhelmed by the expectations put on us by others and ourselves. Often our past experiences may have us repeating patterns and cycles in our relationships that don’t serve us and it can be easy to try to ignore our problems or stuff our feelings only to find they're coming out sideways. To cope, we may engage in behaviors that prevent us from being the best version of ourselves. Often difficult life transitions put us in a state of upheaval, leaving us feeling hopeless, anxious, or depressed. I'd like to help you navigate these challenges.

I am an expert on issues related to parenting, ADHD, reconnecting adolescents to their parents, mid-life transitions, grief and loss and using mindfulness and creativity to calm down, focus and be more present in your life.
My goal is to help you get unstuck. You will begin to feel better just by taking the first step. Serious problems often need someone to both listen and offer alternative ways for thinking in order to make changes that last. Doing nothing and just hoping and wishing that things will get better doesn't work. I will prompt you and support you in taking concrete steps. I talk straight, listen closely and respectfully ask good questions. Starting with our first session, you will begin to figure out a new way to go. Let's talk soon about beginning.

Reaching out to begin therapy can be both overwhelming and a hopeful time to begin something new. A time to create change in your relationships, work functioning, or day to day life. I take a holistic approach to therapy work and seek to understand each person within their environment, which allows us to work collaboratively on changes that feel attainable and sustainable. I like to start a session by offering a cup of coffee (or drink of your choice!) and sit down in open conversation steered by your needs at that moment. Laughter, tears, grief, and joy are some of the many welcomed and honored emotions in the therapeutic space.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
