Our center is focused on helping children with autism spectrum disorder and/or other developmental disabilities. We offer home based and clinic based sessions. In our clinic-based therapy program, your child will receive one-on-one instruction and learning opportunities in a structured setting to work on specific goals. Providing ABA therapy in the home is not unlike clinic-based interventions, as the goal is to develop treatment/behavior plans with objective and measurable goals. This type of therapy creates a naturalistic setting for teaching children daily living and household skills.

You've probably already tried to figure out how to feel better. Sick of being told that you're "too sensitive" or "overreacting," you're exhausted by how emotions and memories reach out and grab you, ripping you from your best efforts at stability. The effects of trauma, including high levels of anxiety, may make you wish you could simply just get rid of your emotions. It doesn't seem to matter how smart you are or how great a problem-solver you are in other areas of your life. The end result is that you're discouraged. I offer a collaborative approach with interventions that work. Come work with me and find hope and change.

Thoughts keep spinning in your mind like an idling engine. Each time it slows down, something gives it another push and it keeps going around. You imagine familiar scenarios, images, and disasters over and over again. You're sure something bad is going to happen. It’s not just stress from school, work or the responsibilities at home. The worry and fear get so bad sometimes that they might boil over into panic. Maybe you have become avoidant of the people or places that trigger these feelings, but then in the back of your mind you hear it whispering. You know deep down that you can't go on like this. And yet, what else can you do?

We all have suffering in our lives-- it's part of human experience. Too often, however, there is a layer of unnecessary psychological pain caused by unconscious defenses. We often resist painful feelings and the realities they point to. When this happens chronically we can get stuck in our resistance, becoming emotionally and physically sick. So our suffering increases. I work together with patients to build and/or embrace their capacity to honestly and compassionately face, untangle, and accept truths they can no longer resist.

I regard much of 'psychopathology' as well-intended (but ineffective) efforts to contend with pain and fear, and to pursue needs and wants. So, in psychotherapy, I invite my clients to explore, identify, and take guidance from their emotional experiences, honoring their depression, anxiety, and other symptoms while finding more effective ways of living well. I also provide psychological and neuropsychological assessments.

I enjoy getting to know the wide variety of people that walk through my door, of all ages, types of challenges and life experiences. The relationship of trust that develops provides a sacred and healing place in which growth and transformation can happen. To have the privilege of being present, actively supporting this process, gives me meaning and joy.

It is important to provide a supportive, attuned presence to help my patients work through the struggles, problems, and difficulties that have brought them into treatment. I build a relationship of trust with my patients in order to help them feel the support and care I have for them. I believe that diligent exploration of a patient's negative emotions and problematic relationships leads to healing. Through the use of simple challenges, highlighting of interpersonal and emotional patterns, encouragement, and honest feedback, my objective is to help the patient feel the love and support needed to heal and change.

I am a firm believer in evidence based treatments and have extensive training and practice in such. That being said, I recognize that "evidence" is usually based on outcomes of clinical trials with very controlled environments where very specific populations with very specific diagnoses are treated. Thus, I find that I am most effective when adapting, integrating and tailoring treatments to my clients' individual needs.

Often, words are not enough to describe or make sense of our experiences, feelings and memories of what life brings us. Distressing and traumatic events can leave us feeling fragmented, isolated, on high alert, panicked, stuck in our trauma memories and nightmares and hopeless about our future. We most often see people of all ages who feel like other forms of therapy have not gotten them to their goals, are looking for a non-verbal way to express themselves and want a better quality of life.

There is never a wrong time to start therapy, nor is there a right one. We won’t worry about right or wrong, but instead we’ll accept where you are - as we work together to discover where you want to go and how to get there. I spend a lot of my free time hiking, seeking out new and interesting terrain. The growth you will hopefully experience during our work together may be much like a challenging hike, with some gentle slopes and triumphant summits, but also with trips, stumbles, and strenuous climbs. I cannot climb your mountains for you, but I will climb them with you and help to show you the way forward.

How long does OCD treatment take?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.
What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.
Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.
Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
