I have spent my entire career working to help make the lives of others better. From working with the victims of Hurricane Katrina to working and serving the homeless in Washington, DC. The majority of my life has been spent in the service of others. I graduated from Liberty University with a master’s in Professional Counseling and a Master of Arts in Human Services Counseling: Addiction and Treatment. I have learned to help effectively and efficiently those suffering from mental illness. I believe in treating the whole person, and sometimes that includes working with their families.

Do you struggle to relax? Are you constantly in your head? Are you feeling dragged down by life's challenges? The Zen proverb 'Let go, or be dragged' reminds us that often in order to move forward, we must let go of what is holding us back. In therapy, I offer a safe and supportive space for individuals to let go of the burdens and beliefs that are preventing them from living a fulfilling life. Whether it's anxiety, gender dysphoria, trauma, chronic suicidal ideation, or low self-esteem, I specialize in helping individuals uncover their innate ability to heal and empower themselves through mindfulness and meditation.

The areas include (but are not limited to) depressive disorders, anxiety, adjustment disorders, PTSD, substance use disorders, suicidal ideations, self-esteem, and trauma related disorders.
Understanding oneself and life can be challenging, especially when facing obstacles and pain. It would be much easier if we were given a guidebook to navigate life. Unfortunately, that's not the reality we live in. Because of this, I have focused on providing better support to help individuals strengthen their mental health and take control of their journey, regardless of their life circumstances. My unique and non-traditional therapy style has formed strong therapeutic connections and has helped many adolescents, adults, and families find love, acceptance, peace, and balance.

Clinical Social Worker committed to providing high-quality care to those facing social exclusion or life challenges. I believe mental health issues often arise from overwhelming emotions experienced in isolation. Without proper support, these emotions can lead to numbness, anxiety, and depression. My goal is to bring these intense emotions into a safe space, helping clients learn to regulate them and reintegrate them into their psyche, leading to a fuller and healthier life.

You have a vision for your life, and despite your best efforts it hasn't yet materialized. You may want more fulfilling relationships, to feel worthy, to feel calmer in your mind and emotions, to focus more on the positive aspects of your life or to make decisions more easily. You may find that long ago or recent experiences continue to bother you even though you think they shouldn't. Maybe you didn't receive the care you needed growing up, were sexually assaulted, experienced medical trauma, or have experienced a loss. You want to heal, grow, and thrive. You may be worried it won't help and you are ready to try therapy.

You belong here. You are accepted here. You are welcome here. Not for your production or what you can do. Not because you are strong and resilient. Not because you’ve learned to put others before yourself. You belong here just as you are, all of you. I enter our collective space authentically as a Black woman and invite my clients to authentically enter as themselves as well. As a clinician, I provide my clients with the space to explore the weight they are carrying using person-centered and Feminist therapy. I also honor and value cultural healing through intergenerational and historical trauma work.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
