My goal is to build strong therapeutic relationships with clients that promote personal growth and healing and to empower clients in the therapeutic setting and beyond. I take a client-centered approached to therapy, aiming to foster growth using each client’s strengths. Additionally, I will use techniques from solution-focused therapy to address specific challenges in a client’s life and existential therapy to determine and pursue the things in life that bring the most meaning to a client’s life. I aim for my clients to feel motivated and supported in therapy.

Sometimes life can feel overwhelming and frustrating. Stress in our lives can come from many different sources: communication difficulties, parenting children, unrealistic expectations at work, academic struggles. These challenges can become confusing and depressing if left in isolation. By addressing these issues in a safe, trusting counseling environment many of these stressors can be reduced.

I've worked with many men who've tried hard to not go to counseling, but finally found their ways of coping weren't working any longer.
Men's Counseling: Are you a man who feels stuck between anger and numbness? Stressed out and not liking yourself? Maybe you've doubted going to therapy because it seems too strange. Do you wish something would change in your relationship, but you don't know what to do--or worried it might end? Or maybe you're the guy who's constantly the friend of every wo man you'd actually like to date. Plus, COVID-19 has raised all these stresses to the nth power. For white guys, maybe you're also realizing how race and racism have played a role in your life. You're ready to take steps to undo harm--but it seems like there's no way out.

Over the past 20 years, I have helped children, adolescents, young adults and adults reach their full potential in many areas of their lives - school, career, health, family, and social settings. While working with individuals, I often incorporate their family or other close relationships to both identify problems and create effective solutions. A trusted therapy environment is often the best place to chart specific goals for a healthier and happier life.

Clinical Social Worker committed to providing high-quality care to those facing social exclusion or life challenges. I believe mental health issues often arise from overwhelming emotions experienced in isolation. Without proper support, these emotions can lead to numbness, anxiety, and depression. My goal is to bring these intense emotions into a safe space, helping clients learn to regulate them and reintegrate them into their psyche, leading to a fuller and healthier life.

I've worked with depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship/family issues, grief, self-esteem, identity, men's issues, sexuality, religion/spirituality, and more.
It takes strength, courage and determination to seek help. People come to therapy because they want something to change and want to better understand themselves, their relationships, and the world around them. To heal from past traumas and difficult life experiences. I've been doing therapy for 20+ years. Hu man beings possess the most amazing resilience, strength, and capacity to heal, whatever challenges they have faced in life. I work to build on strengths to help people achieve the changes that they want in life, and challenge what doesn't work. To develop flexibility and self-acceptance.

Many high-performers know they are capable of achieving more but feel stuck at times. Do you feel that despite having a lot of things together, something is missing that is holding you back? The clients I work with have typically achieved success in many aspects of life, but they struggle in others. When facing challenges that seem insurmountable, we all can benefit from expert guidance and counseling. As a clinical psychologist with over 25 years of education and experience, I empower high-achieving professionals, athletes, and couples to reach their goals and create the changes in life they most desire.

Fulfillment, meaning, and purpose are essential components of what I aim to work towards with clients. Collaboratively I work to understand what their vision of a fulfilling and meaningful life looks like, what is in the way, and what can realistically be done. This can take shape in many forms such as recognizing and addressing current patterns of behavior and how they serve the individual while reinforcing behaviors that bring them closer to their ideal self.

Individuals with ADHD possess a vibrant energy and creativity that enriches their interactions and pursuits. They often exhibit remarkable passion and spontaneity, bringing a refreshing perspective to any situation. However, they may also experience difficulties with focus, organization, and impulse control, which can impact daily tasks and relationships. At the same time, their ability to think outside the box and adapt quickly to change can be tremendous assets. By understanding and supporting their unique qualities, we can help individuals with ADHD thrive in both personal and professional settings.

Our mental health does not exist in a bubble: we are all deeply impacted by our increasingly turbulent world of systemic injustice, political instability and climate breakdown. This turbulence is exacerbated if we're also struggling with depression, anxiety, developmental trauma, substance use, relationship challenges or life transitions. My approach to therapy meets at the intersection of your inner and outer worlds. Rather than focusing solely on a diagnosis, we will work together to understand the root causes of your symptoms so that we can co-create an actionable path towards healing and a more meaningful day-to-day life.

You are hu man.
Have you ever thought – what distinguishes healthy relationships that are able to thrive from unhealthy ones that tend to be full of stress? Is it self-will? Determination? As a couples and family therapist, I believe the one distinguishing factor is "attachment". Attachment is the ability to connect with others. Depending on our ability (or inability) to attach interpersonally, determines the overall satisfaction we experience within our intimate relationships. Also, having been a victim of racism, I opened this practice as a place that people of color can heal from the impact of both blatant and systemic oppression.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
