We provide culturally-sensitive services tailored to the needs of every client. We specialize in providing individualcounseling services to the Black community. Our clients are Black women and men seeking healthy relationships with themselves and others as they work towards building healthy families while healing from race related traumas. These traumas may result from painful experiences of childhood, feelings of oppression from your work/school environment, or even pain felt from today's current cultural climate. We work to help our client's highlight the role this trauma and discover ways to create healthier experiences.

My approach to therapy is to help identify the root cause; as a culturally sensitive therapist I incorporate experience, humor and honest communication.
Sometimes life has us feeling guarded, stressed, ready for battle or just feeling defeated. It can be so exhausting to continuously feel rejected, abused, inadequate, ashamed, guilty or even insignificant by loved ones. Maybe you had to do, what you had to do, to get through and you are tired of being tired. I have worked with anxiety, depression, PTSD, anger, trauma ( multigenerational trauma) & those that have been abused. I have a Mindfulness based approach that taps into your strengths to look for solutions to find what works for you. Here you will find a non-judgmental environment that allows you to just be yourself.

I am committed to creating a welcoming and culturally sensitive space, including gender and poly affirming care.
Our mental health doesn't exist in a bubble: we are all deeply impacted by our increasingly turbulent world of systemic injustice, political instability and climate change. This turbulence is exacerbated if we're also struggling with depression, anxiety, developmental trauma, substance use, relationship challenges or life transitions. My approach to therapy meets at the intersection of your inner and outer worlds. Rather than focusing solely on a diagnosis, we will work together to understand the root causes of your symptoms so that we can co-create an actionable path towards healing and a living a more meaningful day-to-day life.

My style is compassionate, client centered, and culturally sensitive.
If someone asked you not to think for 10 minutes how hard would that be? Is overthinking about the “What Ifs” driving you to relentlessly check things over and over again? Are you determined to find certainty in an uncertain world? Do you frequently ask others repeatedly if something or someone is going to be OK? No matter how much you do a task or say a particular thing does peace of mind elude you? Does the compulsion to handwash, re-read, double check, pray, or re-arrange items never provide lasting relief? Do you find yourself burdened by intrusive thoughts that strike against your will and preoccupy your mind for hours a day?

Therapy is more than processing trauma and negative situations that may have happened in your life. It is about learning how strong you are in spite of those situations. It is about establishing a connection with yourself that reveals your identity, helps you to trust yourself, grow in your personal faith, and create healthier behavior patterns.

I offer experience, perspective and professionalism from decades of work with people experiencing a wide variety of life challenges, problems, mood and emotional disorders. I view these issues from a cognitive behavioral and solution-focused therapy model, helping good people find solutions, make changes and experience improvement in the areas of their life and relationships where they are seeking change. I've worked for decades in trauma, addiction and recovery, including couples therapy where one or both of the partners are in recovery and/or struggling with addiction issues both substance and process (eg gambling, pornagraphy).

As a first generation bilingual Guatemalan immigrant, I am committed to providing therapeutic services to varying diverse communities. It can be difficult to find professionals with whom you can feel safe with. I am culturally aware and embrace all our differences. My relational approach helps me look at people as small parts of a bigger whole. I believe and trust in that "gut feeling", the voice within we sometimes ignore. I want to work alongside you to focus on the emotional healing, and start the process of restoring hope and confidence. I help people address anxiety, cultural issues, loss, and other life transitions.

Grief and loss, childhood emotional neglect, domestic violence, and many other challenges and transitions in life affect how we see ourselves and the world we live in. It can lead to powerlessness, hopelessness, unspeakable pain and suffering, shame, emotional upheavals, and/or loss of sense of security. Yet all we seek is the ability to find peace, acceptance, and a strong connectivity with ourselves that lead to better connections with others. We want to be able to clear our view to ultimately see our deeper and meaningful purpose in life. I believe we have the innate capacity to achieve these.

You tell yourself "I just can't do this anymore" and somehow, you push through the pain and the hurt and you carry on, but only living as an empty shell of who you once were. If it seems like in your relationship, you never talk, and the times you do talk, turn into fights; there is hope. If you or a someone you care about struggles with the ups and downs of substances use; there is hope. If you have been given news of a terminal or life-debilitating illness that has literally taken the breath from your lungs; there is hope. I would be honored if you allowed me to help you find that hope.

Are you the one everyone turns to, the reliable achiever who seems to have it all together—but deep down, you feel exhausted, overwhelmed, and unseen? From the outside, your life looks flawless—executive success, ambitious goals, and a sense of responsibility that never falters. But inside, it feels different. You carry the weight of perfectionism, unresolved childhood wounds, and the silent burden of being “the strong one.” When do you get to breathe? I am here to help you navigate that space where success and struggle collide. Together, we’ll rewrite the narrative into a story of wholeness, authenticity, and peace.

Culturally Sensitive Therapists

How does culturally sensitive therapy work?

A culturally sensitive therapist will tailor their approach to therapy based on the individual client’s background. This may include changing their style of interaction (asking open-ended questions vs. being the “expert” voice), their affect (seeming warm or “neutral”), how much personal information they disclose about themselves, and more. It’s also important for a culturally sensitive therapist to acknowledge larger societal forces that may impact their client due to the client’s background.

How effective is culturally sensitive therapy?

Some professionals have expressed concern about highlighting cultural differences in therapy, suggesting that it might promote stereotypes and harm the therapeutic bond; however, many experts agree that cultural sensitivity tends to strengthen the connection between therapist and client and help clients feel heard and understood. A culturally sensitive approach to therapy can be especially helpful for those not in the cultural majority, especially when combined with proven therapies like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

What are the limitations of a culturally sensitive approach to therapy?

While being culturally sensitive is generally a valuable skill to have, a therapist cannot treat every client from a similar background the same way. Each client is an individual with their own values, personal preferences, and life experiences that will need to be explored during therapy. In addition, it’s rare for a therapist and client to have identical backgrounds, so there may be some cross-cultural differences to navigate during therapy, but a culturally sensitive therapist can do so with empathy and respect.

Can culturally sensitive therapy be done online?

Yes, online therapy using a culturally sensitive approach can be beneficial. Therapy can sometimes be difficult to access for clients from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic standing. The array of mental health support available through the internet makes it possible for clients to find a good therapist match regardless of where they live.
