Relationships are my passion and focus. I counsel individuals and couples who are navigating conflict, communication issues, betrayal, infidelity, emotional detachment, depression and anxiety. I believe that all of our histories and narratives shape who we become, how we feel, and how we act. My therapy style is about connection, cooperation, and the healing of old wounds and past hurts that affect current behaviors. If you are struggling with anxiety, trauma, relationships, or just don't know how to move forward, I would be honored to help you find your next steps.

I view therapy as a collaborative process where the client is the expert on themselves, and the therapeutic relationship is the most important factor in creating change. It is important to have a safe, empowering, and supportive environment in order to examine hurtful relationship patterns and emotional difficulties, and in turn change negative self-evaluations to better respond to life's challenges. I am genuinely interested in and committed to helping my clients gain insight and express their needs in order to engage in more healthy relationships and live the life they want.

I draw on various treatment modalities, including Attachment-based therapies like Post-Induction Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and other parts-focused approaches.
Those who have experienced developmental and relational trauma are constantly finding themselves in complicated and challenging relationships. Maybe you identify with codependency, complicated grief, or are suffering from other intimacy disorders. It may seem like you’re navigating the world, unable to esteem and care for yourself in meaningful ways. Dysfunction at work or school, financial challenges, and perhaps declining physical health have prevented you from living a full and whole-hearted life. Today is different- together, we can work on challenging your old beliefs and create a new way of knowing and being known.

We all long to be seen, heard, understood, acknowledged and loved. Healing occurs when we feel safe in our relationships and are able to connect to ourselves and with each other. We can then allow ourselves to be known and express what is true for us. I utilize a somatic, attachment-based, psychodynamic approach that gently explores old wounds and releases suppressed emotions which influence what you believe about yourself, determine the roles you play in life, and impact how you show up in the world. This approach reaches the root cause of your troubles.

My approach to therapy is person-centered, meaning it is rooted in authenticity, acceptance, and empathy. My goal is to create a safe, judgment-free space to help clients identify the roots of obstacles and challenges, build on existing strengths and resources, process emotions and difficult life experiences, reflect on core beliefs and behavior patterns, and learn healthy coping strategies that enable growth and healing. I believe the words of Kate Bowler, "Life is so beautiful. Life is so hard," and I feel grateful to get to help people face the hard and find the beautiful.

Guilt and shame running the show? You wake up wondering if you did enough or maybe even are enough each morning. Do you put your needs at the bottom of the to-do list? You're exhausted most of the time but you're unable to sleep at night due to racing thoughts and worries. You feel demotivated at work and you think to yourself, "What's the point?" Then overwhelm and procrastination sets in. You may be experiencing relational burnout and people pleasing tendencies. If you're ready to start feeling like yourself again, you're in the right place.

I'm Jessica (she/her), resident in counseling. I conceptualize healing as a whole person process, reconnecting to self and using mindfulness for coping with depression, anxiety, and distress while developing new meaning and identity. So, you are the one who "doesn't need anyone's help". You ignore the red flags in relationships or neglect yourself because someone needs you. You're the overwhelmed person who wears the happiness mask even though you are feeling drained, depleted or trying to heal your past traumas. Life is about transitions, and we need support getting through the rough patches. You are more resilient, capable of healing, worthy of love, and deserving of peace than you may realize. If you’re ready to reduce the stress, heal, or confidently achieve peace for a better quality of life, you're in the right place.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
