I am now accepting DAY-TIME clients! Be the child you wished would change the world”. My philosophy is that by fostering change in the younger versions of society, then we can influence real change. Welcome to Heart-Led Counseling and Consulting, where I take great pride in working with people, especially children, teenagers, and adolescents. The child in us all is not my focus, but the aspects of the child, the carefree voice, the ability to live out loud, love out loud, and heal out loud before life’s challenges silenced our voices.

Allow Me to Introduce Myself, My name Ta Mara P. Williams, Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Substance Abuse Counselor, Entrepreneur, CEO/ Boss Lady, and Owner of Ta Mara’s Promise. I didn’t start my life with all of these titles. I had to work hard for each one of them. Through every challenge, every stumbling block, and every failure I learned to survive in"the struggle." Having a firsthand understanding that life is not always “rainbows and sunshine", but there are storms that can knock you to your knees. I believe It is my job as a therapist to help you see the light in the midst of your darkness.

Life is a long journey that is often filled with ups and downs. With a warm and non-judgmental approach, my goal is to help children and adults through these challenges by meeting them where they are, providing opportunities to explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences without fear of criticism. I have previous experience working closely with community programs, special education schools, and psychiatric units, providing music therapy as an alternative of care for individuals dealing with symptoms of depression, anxiety, and developmental disabilities.

In the way that music can transport you to a different time and place when you listen to it, music therapy creates a safe place to explore your emotions.
Music takes the healing process deeper. It doesn't matter if you have never played music before. The music is my job - you just show up and be open to the experience. Together we'll figure out your goals, such as learning how to deal with difficult emotions, overcome difficult struggles or events, enjoy healthier relationships, or live a more fulfilling life. Talking is important in music therapy, but music allows us to go deeper.

How does music therapy work?

A music therapist will begin by assessing the client’s specific needs and getting a sense of their musical ability and interests. Musical training is not required, and clients of all ages can benefit from this type of therapy. The therapist will then make a plan for how to achieve the client’s therapeutic goal(s) using a range of receptive (e.g., listening to a song) and active (e.g., drumming in a group) music therapy techniques.

What are some common music therapy techniques?

Music therapy usually involves listening to music (either live or recorded). Music therapy clients may also make music on popular instruments, such as the piano, guitar, and hand drum, or sing. Sometimes music therapy can include guided imagery. A music therapist may ask clients to improvise on the spot or even compose their own songs. Dancing or moving to music can be an effective intervention to help clients feel more fully grounded in their bodies and remain in the present moment.

How does music therapy help with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)?

Music therapy can be a valuable creative outlet for clients with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) who have trouble putting their painful feelings into words. Listening to music can be relaxing while making music as part of a group provides plenty of opportunities to connect with other people. In addition to its mood-boosting effects, music therapy can help clients build resilience and overcome PTSD symptoms that may interfere with their daily lives.

How long does music therapy take?

Music therapy sessions generally last between 30 and 50 minutes. They can be scheduled in advance (for example, once a week) or can be done on an as-needed basis. Some clients will only require a handful of music therapy sessions to achieve their goals, while others may need months or longer, depending on their specific concern.
