While my theraputic approach is grounded in psychodynamic theory, I utilize CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, expressive art, and play therapy techniques.
Life tends to throw us curve balls. With all of our energy spent juggling obligations, responsibilities, and managing daily stresses, it's easy to wake up one day and realize that you just feel "stuck." Making the decision to begin therapy can be difficult, but it's the first step towards regaining control of your life. Whether you are feeling overwhelmed, experiencing relationship difficulties, or just want a different perspective on whatever is holding you back, I'm here to help you navigate and overcome these challenges. Every person's situation is unique. I do not treat the therapeutic process as "one-size-fits all."

In our work together, we will use treatment modalities that include, but are not limited to, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, Mindfulness-Based Therapy, Expressive Art, Play Therapy Techniques, and Dialectal Behavioral Therapy.
As a therapist, it is my priority to provide a supportive and caring environment where you can have a non-judgmental space, learn new ways of coping, and ultimately create the changes you want to see in your life. I enjoy working with all ages, but have a passion for working with teenagers and young adults. Some of my specialties include anxiety, depression, adoption, trauma, and self-esteem.

As an artist-therapist, I encourage exploration of both traditional and unconventional art processes and materials to expand your perception of art making all while reaching your therapeutic goals.
Are you looking for a unique and creative way to process life's challenges? Do you often have difficulty matching words to your feelings leading to low engagement in traditional talk therapy? I can help you reach your goals through art making that encourages both a creative and transformative therapeutic experience. I have worked extensively with teens and adults with histories of trauma, sexual abuse, depression, anxiety, work burnout, and LGBTQ+ identities. I also work with therapists to provide them with a creative approach different from their own.

Who am I? I am HER, I am great, I am divine and I strongly believe that we are all that person. Coming from a military background where I served in the United States Navy for 10 years before being Honorably Discharged, I am very familiar with military life and transition. -Strength for Today- "This too shall pass". Our world is filled with people who fight silent battles every day, struggling to understand and cope with their mental health. I am here to tell them that they are not alone. I believe that in the midst of darkness, there is still hope and a light at the end of the tunnel. I believe strongly that everyone can benefit from attending therapy. My ultimate passion is to help others through their struggles in difficult times. I believe in an individualized, patient-centered approach because everyone’s needs are different and therapy is not "one-size-fits-all".

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
