She can provide you with many types of coping skills using CBT, DBT, mindfulness etc.
Are you struggling with decision overload? Feeling overwhelmed just getting through the day? Do you have concerns your family and friends might be tired of hearing about? Kelly and the therapy dogs are great at creating a calm and welcoming atmosphere where you can feel safe sharing whatever is on your mind. Together, we can help you make plans to move forward in your life in a satisfying way. Each of us goes through many changes as individuals, as part of a relationship and perhaps a family. Sometimes we need help navigating those changes and making sure they are healthy. Sometimes we need help!

Working together, we will develop goals and a treatment plan using a variety of methods, such as CBT, ACT, DBT, among others.
We all struggle, but not everyone has a judgment-free, safe space to be vulnerable; a place to explore and process private thoughts and feelings. Are you going through life with mental heath and emotional troubles, do you suffer silently and alone because you don’t have support or you're too ashamed to “bother” anyone? Are you having problems adjusting to life changes, suffering from anxiety and/ or depression, have unresolved trauma, have relationship issues, or simply have a desire for growth & change? Let me work with you, it's okay to ask for the help. I will hold a safe space for you.

I also use skills and techniques from Dialectical Behavior Therapy ( DBT) and Solution-Focused therapy.
Is it challenging for you to identify, understand, and talk about your emotions? Are you setting healthy boundaries? Life is a learning process. We are always learning. I help individuals develop healthy coping strategies to promote wellness as it relates to the impact of trauma or stressful experiences from the past. I'll work with you on utilizing your resources, strengths, and skills to overcome challenges and work through setbacks. I also specialize in working with college and graduate students. Congratulations on taking the first (and often most difficult step) of seeking mental health services. The best day to start is today!

Hey! Thanks for signing up with Sondermind and giving that counseling thing a chance. A little about myself... I'm a licensed provider (LPC) with about 5 years experience working with children, adolescents and adults in different settings. This journey is about you, and the therapeutic relationship is a significant key to success. I'm here to meet you where you're at. I can't tell you how to feel, but I hope to create a safe environment where you feel like you can be yourself, and trust I'm there to support you - even on what you'd call your "worst" days.

You are the only one responsible for your mental health. The greatest gift you can give yourself is to know and understand your own story. More importantly, know and understand when it’s time for a change in that story. I have been working in human services for over 18 years with an objective of helping everyday people get their own needs met. I have a keen interest in helping you discover what’s holding you back and what it’s going to take to move you to the next level- OF YOU.

I use a collaborative approach to address an individual's needs, utilizing a combination of therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, specifically Dialectical Behavioral Therapy ( DBT).
I have a special interest in helping family members retain or regain relationships. Problems may arise from addiction, depression, or a variety of other issues. The opportunity to grow and move forward with life can be difficult, especially if you are battling addiction, with or without co-occurring disorders. We can all use a partner in this effort, someone that can provide tools, support and encouragement as we move through life. I see that as my role in your therapy. Let’s form a team so that you can enjoy life and reach your goals.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
