Just relax, they said - and you want to, but you feel like you can't! What if something goes wrong? It did that one time. You are not alone: many people spend their time dealing with thoughts and feelings that are intrusive and time-consuming. If you are tired of feeling trapped inside your head, there is hope. My passion is helping people get unstuck from thoughts and feelings related to past and present experiences including child and adult complex traumas, OCD ( Obsessive-compulsive Disorder), and other anxiety and depression related issues and back into living life.

Waitlist for new clients
I specialize in providing counseling for kids, teens, and adults with issues such as OCD, life stressors, trauma, family conflict, depression, and anxiety.
Instead of asking "what's wrong" with someone, my approach is to ask "what happened." Getting to the root of a problem, seeing what’s behind it and what’s contributing to it, is more beneficial in the long term than solely viewing an issue as it presents today. While providing a safe and supportive environment, I work collaboratively with clients to learn ways to manage symptoms more effectively, keep the past from negatively affecting the present, and assist clients in moving forward with clarity and purpose.

I have been a Licensed Clinical Psychologist since 2005 and use Cognitive-Behavioral and Solution-Focused treatments to help people navigate struggles with stress, mood, anxiety, family, relationships, and grief. I have specialized training in marriage and relationships, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, and OCD. I pride myself on creating a relaxed and comfortable therapeutic environment as I know that this space is many people’s first experience with therapy. I believe in setting goals for growth and change and I love to give “homework”, nothing crazy just something to be thoughtful of or working on until the next session.

Hi, I'm Cara and I've been practicing mental health since 2010. It wasn't until I gave birth in 2021 that I realized a real need for counselors trained in all things postpartum. Postpartum issues can range from depression and anxiety to Bipolar disorder, grief, OCD, PTSD, and psychosis. They can also be present in someone other than the one who gave birth! Partners, close social supports, adoptive parents, and even birthing professionals can experience these issues. With the right treatment things can get better! If you're experiencing any issues listed above, regardless of parental status I'd love to help.

Everyone gets stuck at some point. It's not a matter of if, it's a question of when, what, and how. If that's you now, I'd love to help. Potential clients that would fit well with me are those who want to change but just aren't sure how to get started. I have a particular interest in working with married couples and individuals who struggle with long-term unwanted or addictive behaviors.

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
