My name is Jim Meador, and I am the owner of Rivermont Counseling. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Virginia and have been working in the mental health field since 2006. Joshua Kee is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with more than 12 years of clinical mental health experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families who have experienced various symptoms of depression, anxiety, anger management, parent/child difficulty, mood disorders, stress management, ADHD, impulse control issues, and family and relationship issues, among others. Joshua is highly skilled in building rapport and trust with his clients in order to create an effective therapeutic alliance. He received his Master’s degree in Professional Counseling from Liberty University in 2014.

The two most important factors in effective psychotherapy are finding the right person with whom you can connect and knowing that the therapy is geared to your unique needs. My 45 years of counseling have taught me therapy is most effective when we work together. Therapy is a cooperative effort. I want to identify your strengths and apply them to your problems. If you have a history of trauma, I have found that EMDR therapy is the most effective way to treat trauma and am excited to offer this therapy.

Geoffrey Dill (he/him) is a Resident in Counseling (RIC) with years of experience working in the mental health field. He is passionate about providing therapeutic care to clients dealing with shame, specializing particularly in eating disorders, LGBTQIA+ needs, trauma, depression, and low self-esteem.

Jacob Sitton is a Resident in Counseling who has experience working with adults of all age groups and in individual, couple, and group contexts. Jacob has worked with clients experiencing a variety of issues and conditions, and most consistently finds himself counseling individuals struggling with chronic anxiety, depression and suicidality, low self-esteem, grief, and relational difficulty. He has had the privilege of working with clients who are overcoming trauma, battling addiction, or living with borderline personality disorder. Jacob completed his master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Liberty University.

My name is Amir Cotton and I’m one of the counselors at Breakthrough Counselling LLC. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner in the state of Virginia. I am also a National Certified Counselor, Certified Clinical Mental Counselor, and Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor. I also have a Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling and over 12 years of experience working in the mental health field. I have experience treating depression, anxiety, PTSD/Trauma, addiction, bipolar, and adjustment disorders. I enjoy getting to know and joining with my clients to achieve their goals.

Have you ever thought – what distinguishes healthy relationships that are able to thrive from unhealthy ones that tend to be full of stress? Is it self-will? Determination? As a couples and family therapist, I believe the one distinguishing factor is "attachment". Attachment is the ability to connect with others. Depending on our ability (or inability) to attach interpersonally, determines the overall satisfaction we experience within our intimate relationships. Also, having been a victim of racism, I opened this practice as a place that people of color can heal from the impact of both blatant and systemic oppression.

From day one I seek to help clients reach autonomy through treatment. Counseling, for the majority of individuals, is not something that should last a lifetime. Focusing on your goals, identifying barriers to progress, and seeking how to sustain the progress you have made is my philosophy.

Having worked extensively with children, adolescents and their families, I would say my ideal client is pre-teen to adult working through behavioral struggles including impulse control, defiance, hyperactivity, etc. I work closely with and honor the family unit and also work with couples, relationship and marriage counseling for the betterment of that unit. I also have worked with and specialize in treatment of dual diagnosis, particularly when addictive behaviors are a primary concern. Being trained in ASAM criteria I also work with additive behaviors in both adolescent and adults.

I have been working with couples and families for 30 years as a pastor and a licensed marriage and family therapist. By training, experience, and passion, I work best with couples and families, and also with individuals who are experiencing relationship issues. I enjoy providing pre-marital counseling to engaged or pre-engaged couples, working with married couples who are experiencing relational distress, and with parents who are struggling with raising children and teens. As a retired Army Chaplain and former Marine Artillery Officer, I love working with military personnel, including those with combat-related issues or PTSD.

Christopher is a Licensed Professional Counselor with 3 years of experience working in a variety of counseling settings, including ambulatory crisis stabilization, inpatient hospitalization, residential treatment, and school-based services. Christopher has extensive experience treating clients with mood disorders; anxiety disorders; trauma- and stress-related- disorders; and disruptive, impulse control, and conduct disorders. Christopher completed his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Randolph College and Masters Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Lynchburg College.
