As a Christian Counselor, I seek to create a compassionate space for you to express your fears, hurts or stressors while combating the shame that often compels us to hide. My role is to guide, encourage, and challenge you as you move towards growth. I also believe not all counseling is about change. Sometimes, circumstances outside of your control lead to a hard season of life. In these instances, I seek to empathize, listen and identify the truths and values that help us feel a sense of calm in a chaotic world.

I have been working with couples and families for 30 years as a pastor and a licensed marriage and family therapist. By training, experience, and passion, I work best with couples and families, and also with individuals who are experiencing relationship issues. I enjoy providing pre-marital counseling to engaged or pre-engaged couples, working with married couples who are experiencing relational distress, and with parents who are struggling with raising children and teens. As a retired Army Chaplain and former Marine Artillery Officer, I love working with military personnel, including those with combat-related issues or PTSD.

I love to help others feel comfortable in sharing their stories without guilt and shame. I try to give an open space for clients to share what they are looking for during counseling and specific outcomes they would like to achieve. One of my goals is to help clients take time to become aware of their thoughts and feelings amid demanding work, school, and personal schedules. I am passionate about helping other's slow down in the midst of our hurried world and engage in practices that increase awareness of ourselves and of God within our story.

Welcome! My name is Leah Horton and I'm an LPC in Virginia. I began my journey in the counseling world working as a licensed K-12 school counselor and later transitioned into doing clinical work in an outpatient setting and at a collegiate counseling center. I have experience working with children, adolescents, families, and young adults. My personal motto for counseling is "one life touching another". I have a passion for helping people explore and better understand their feelings and experiences in order to assist them in navigating through the difficulties of life within the safety of the therapeutic relationship.

As a Cross Cultural individual who grew up in Asia, I am fluent in English, Cantonese, and conversational Mandarin. I have years of experience working with children in multiple settings and in multiple countries. I completed clinical training in SYMBIS premarital counseling, Gottman Method Couples Therapy (Level 1), TBRI for children from hard places, ASIST suicide prevention, and CBASP intervention for chronic depression. Currently, I am currently a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Licensed Professional Counselor. I am also a Registered Play Therapist to provide the therapeutic powers of play for working with children.
