Helping the people I work with to overcome their struggles and manage their symptoms is the best part of my job. I especially enjoy working with college students as they manage the many transitions and stresses of university. I have experience working with people of a variety of age groups, on issues relating to anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress. I also have experience with LGBTQIA+ identified clients.

I work with clients on broad-ranging topics including addiction, trauma, anxiety and mood disorders, family/relationship conflict, and sexuality. My goal is to help clients address the impact of their experiences and emotions on daily living within a safe, supportive, and individualized setting. I encourage clients to accept themselves at every point in their mental health journey, while developing coping skills and support networks that will enrich their lives. My clients range in age from pre-K through adulthood, and come from a variety of different backgrounds.

I have spent much of my life driving the success of mental health initiatives from the systems and counseling level. This involved tackling issues through policy development and direct counseling initiatives. As a psychotherapist, I bring my wealth of experience to the outpatient setting, facilitating others to become their best selves through kindness and strategic supports. I practice from the belief that we can all live meaningful, fulfilling lives if we have genuine, knowledgeable supports cheering us forward.

I strive to create an environment to support children and adults, to improve their lives by having more enjoyable relationships. I like to provide my patients the required tools to succeed in life. I have loved to serve the community and use my natural ability to empathize. I received my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in May 2015. Since my graduation, I have been performing psychological evaluations and therapy for patients of all ages, gathering a broad base of experience.

With over 14 years of experience in the field of mental health and school counseling, I have been fortunate to gain a wealth of knowledge working with individuals 5 to 65! Utilizing my education gained from VSU, VCU and Walden University, I pride myself in the ability to use a variety of treatment modalities, shining a unique perspective within the field!

Sumintra, a dedicated Resident in Counseling, is deeply committed to the field of behavioral health. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Hampton University and went on to complete her Master’s in Counselor Education at Virginia Commonwealth University, specializing in Couples and Family Counseling. Her professional experience extends to outpatient therapy, where she conducts individual, couples, family, and group therapy sessions.

Paula O’Leary is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who has worked in the mental health field for 15 years in a variety of settings, including outpatient, school, community-based, residential, hospital, and correctional settings. Paula specializes in treating depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, substance use, and other issues. She completed her master's degree at Cardinal Stritch University. Paula has also completed additional training in trauma and has obtained certification as a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP).

We specialize in, an approach, that combines both mind & body wellness. I am often told by clients that they feel stuck. Anxiety, Depression and life stressors are at an all time high and we are not sure how to move past the negative and stifling feelings. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has specialized in working with children, adolescents, adults, and families for over 9 years. My background and experiences include work in the public school systems, child welfare systems (child protective services, adoptions, and foster care), private counseling center for adolescents and families, therapeutic recreational services, intensive in-home counseling, and an emergency diagnostic residential facility. I have experience working with individuals and families who have experienced trauma, grief & loss, divorce, single parenting, job loss, family conflict, stress, domestic violence, substance abuse, and crisis situations. Outpatient Counseling offers a variety of therapeutic interventions by licensed and skilled providers of mental health services. We offer a warm, welcoming environment where members of our community can receive confidential, quality, client-centered therapeutic services to meet the many numerous emotional and behavioral struggles they may face. We work closely with referral sources and other providers to allow for the most comprehensive and valuable service provision.

I am currently accepted new clients and I accept all Cigna, Optum (United Healthcare), Anthem and Aetna plans. Layne is certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which has shown to effectively treat trauma. Layne also uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy to treat depression, anxiety and a variety of personality disorders. Layne has experience with psychotic disorders, Bipolar disorders, and other serious mental illnesses and offers symptom mapping and management.
