I also have background in behavioral medicine, marriage and family therapy, and neuropsychological and psychological testing.
I am an empathic and experienced Cognitive-Behavioral (CBT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapist. I also teach at Georgetown Hospital and the George Washington University, as well as serve on the OCD Mid-Atlantic Affiliate Board. My treatment aims are as follows: 1) provide direct symptom relief, 2) engage clients in treatment in a way that interests them, 3) appeal to strengths, 4) encourage overall treatment compliance, and 5) explain the clinical process in easy to understand language. Empowerment occurs with the recognition that mental health symptoms have predictable patterns. Symptoms are relieved through changing these patterns. Interactive readings and assignments are encouraged.

I am married to my high-school sweetheart and just celebrated 14 years of marriage.
Hi there! Congratulations for taking the step to seek counseling. You might be faced with something that you aren't quite sure how to navigate or just need a listening ear outside your circle. I'm happy to help! I am a graduate of Liberty University and have been working in the mental health field since 2008 in different capacities. Most recently including a Director of a mental health agency and now my private practice. I have supervised people in different positions so if your workplace is where your struggle is, let's talk! Sometimes it could be as simple as learning how to communicate better.

We will identify root causes, using an approach that suits you, your situation, and your goals through marital, family, or individual therapy.
There are three certainties in life - death, taxes, and relationships. When the last of relationships are struggling—whether it’s your partner, teenager, or other loved one—it affects every area of your life. Relationships are important to you, or affect someone you love, making conflict all the more confusing and painful, leaving you feeling lost and hurting. When they start to break down, from life stressors, change, or for reasons you don't understand, they can be hard to fix despite your best efforts. Conflict can feel inevitable or repetitive, while deep down all you want is to connect, come close, and love one another.

Well Marriage Center, LLC offers a " marriage-friendly" approach with this bias: we want your relationship to succeed.
Couples counseling is my specialties and what I do almost exclusively. I've trained under renowned family therapist Louise Guerney in order to provide the most successful and practical relationship and/or parental enhancement possible for you as a couple. Often this doesn't require many years of therapy. What I tell couples all the time is this, "what may seem hopeless at the beginning is actually very changeable." I utilize a positive, values-driven approach to help couples create a relationship where both partners feel honored and respected.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
