I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 30 years of experience working with adolescents, adults, families, and couples in a relaxed, safe, and caring environment. People enter my office because they feel stuck or lost. Clients recognize that they are unhappy and often know what makes them unhappy, but they don't know how to change. Many people in these situations are feeling depressed, anxious, and may be involved with self-defeating behaviors. Together, we examine these issues with non-judgmental dialogue.

Sessions are collaborative and will assist with understanding triggers, shifting perspectives, developing healthy life habits, and learning skills to successfully manage emotions.
Many individuals find that they may require outside support when they are feeling overwhelmed and unable to successfully navigate life's stressors. These negative barriers may cause difficulties in relationships, intense emotional responses, or impact your ability to achieve your goals. It's possible that past experiences and learned behaviors are causing distress and impacting your ability to make change in the present. It's an ideal time to seek support when these barriers begin to impact your ability to function.

What if you could deeply connect with people, trust yourself fully, and wake up excited for life? Difficult life events led you to coping in ways that were vital for surviving in the past, but now they are holding you back from living the life you want. I offer the opportunity for change. I can help you understand these protective parts of yourself, and gain a deeper Self awareness. By working together, we can heal the parts of you that are stuck in the past, and have kept you from moving forward. These parts show up as addiction, anxiety, depression, & self sabotage to distract from the pain beneath.

Are you, or someone you love, feeling defeated, broken, burdened? Do the days just come and go and lack the vitality and energy that you once had. Life can be wonderful but sometimes life hurts like hell. If suffering has taken up residence in your life...maybe you've tried on your own without success to figure out what to do. Studies show that psychotherapy can help. I have been practicing psychotherapy for twenty five years. As your therapist you have my promise: That I will listen carefully, deeply, and reverently. That I will not judge, moralize preach; or assume

Hello! I know people have many different perspectives on therapy, and I’m glad you’re exploring your options. After doing this for many years now, I have developed a comprehensive understanding of how people progress in counseling and therapy. When working with me, we’ll first identify issues, and then use empirically proven approaches and strategies to work through those issues. I will also help guide you through problem-solving life’s many obstacles. My personal perspective on hu man functioning is that our thoughts guide our emotions, and our emotions control our behavior.

Have you been looking to talk to someone about challenges and everyday life? And have these challenges made you feel hopeless or not good enough or influenced you to use substances to cope? Overcoming these feelings might feel impossible to do and make you feel “stuck”.

Over the past 17 years I have learned that the change process is collaborative and requires a unified focus between therapist and client. In therapy, the most positive outcomes occur when we develop a healthy therapeutic relationship and focus on the same goals. Building this relationship allows both therapist and client to feel comfortable while cultivating positive change. I practice from a wellness perspective that states everything we experience throughout our lives is a natural part of our development as individuals. I will meet you wherever you may be emotionally knowing that your life's journey has brought you to this place.

As a counselor, my hope is to create a bond between myself and my clients that has a healthy balance between comfortable, casual, friendly interactions and actively working toward established goals. My approach depends on the present needs of each client, if you feel like something needs changing or something different may be more beneficial in the therapeutic environment, let me know and I will adjust. Whatever your needs are, I can be more structured and goal-oriented or I can put more emphasis on being an active listener that provides thoughtful feedback.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
