My view of those I serve is based on an understanding of each individual as a whole person, which goes beyond their challenges. I have a Person-Centered philosophy, with use of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing).

I am a Clinical Psychologist in the Christiansburg area. I use a variety of therapies to help each individual with their specific needs. My approach to therapy is warm, empathic, and caring. Whether there is pain from which you are seeking relief, or ways you just feel stuck, my job is to empower and equip you to grow into more of the person you want to be – and to respect and care for the person you already have become! I also offer objective testing for ADHD and other forms of psychological assessment.

Welcome and thank you for considering me as a potential provider. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with an intrinsic passion for helping others. Growing up in a military family, I was exposed to diverse populations with varying levels of need. From a young age, I have felt compelled to serve others. I have experience serving children, adolescents, and adults facing a variety of challenges, including mood symptoms, behavioral issues, trauma, relationship issues, and educational challenges.

I enjoy working with adolescents, young adults, and adults experiencing issues relating to sexuality, gender identity, interpersonal relationships, self-esteem, grief, life transitions, depression, anxiety, and trauma. As a counselor, I enjoy working with clients who are seeking growth and healing and want to have more satisfying connections in their lives, as well as clients who are willing to put in the work to achieve these goals.

My ideal client is one who is ready to discover more about themselves and how they interact with the world. Someone who is open to change, and who is prepared to allow me to take this journey alongside them.

My therapeutic approach is strengths based and tailored for each client, situation, and goal to find what works best for that individual. I have experience providing therapy in outpatient, school based, and in-home settings working with ADD/ADHD, anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, depression, personality disorders, dual diagnosis, anger management, substance use and abuse, parenting issues, and more. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and further certified to provide Trauma Focused CBT in the state of VA.

And there are times where joy and excitement are experienced. I began helping others in 1990 as a Peer Counselor (Drug Exemption NCO) while on active duty in the Marine Corps. After earning degrees in Psychology and Social Work at UNCW/ECU, I obtained licensure to practice independently with the Virginia Board of Health Professionals in 2004. I am originally from the Hampton Roads area but have worked internationally with people from many different backgrounds. I have continued to support the military, as well as the community at large, for over 3 decades with evidence-based treatments for trauma (PTSD).

Taking new clients for neurofeedback only. If you are interested in pursuing EMDR in 2025, I am happy to put you on my waiting list. If you are wanting more immediate or long term therapy, I can refer you to another practitioner in my practice. Have you had a traumatic incident(s) and still experiencing the symptoms? I specialize in working with parents and caregivers who are struggling in their relationship with their child. When parenting a challenging child, caregivers can find themselves in cycles of constant conflict, either walking on eggshells and/or lashing out in ways that seem unrecognizable. The caregivers I support often face issues such as verbal and physical aggression, destruction of property, and youth substance use. Caregivers deserve nonjudgmental support in navigating these difficult relationships, coupled with practical intervention plans that allow them to regain a sense of peace and safety within their homes and themselves.

Each individual and situation is unique. I believe that it is important to focus on the whole person to help aide in discovery of inner strengths and ways to best help oneself. I utilize an eclectic, person-centered approach, use creative outlets and a variety of techniques in my practice while offering a positive and supportive environment for personal growth and development.
