I work from a client-centered holistic approach using CBT, acceptance and commitment therapy, EMDR, and mindfulness.
Making the decision to attend counseling is not an easy one. It takes courage and strength to admit "I need help". Though life presents many challenges, I am a firm believer that everyone is capable of working through tough times but there are times when we need assistance. My goal is to empower, encourage, and give my clients the tools they need to work through any season. I am Resident in Counseling in the Commonwealth of Virginia who has always had a passion and desire for helping others.

I'm trained in EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy), Emotional Intelligence, and Mindfulness.
Finding meaning in life is the best gift you can give to yourself and those around you. Do you notice lack of motivation, self-sabotaging behaviors, or just feel stuck? Conscious awareness is the foundation for change and where you find the power to choose how to respond to life's challenges. By providing an attuned therapeutic relationship I help my clients develop self-awareness, establish and maintain clear personal goals, and learn to access inner strengths. Life's challenges are gifts that help us grow closer to our true purpose!

My training in EMDR and Somatic Experiencing can facilitate resolution.
I have been providing counseling services to adolescents and adults for over 30 years. I have extensive training in the treatment of addiction, trauma, PTSD and anxitey and mood disorders. Together we will determine your goals and my treatment approach will be based on where you are in your journey. I am not a therapist who will simply ask you "how do you feel?" I am very active. I can not do the work for you, but together we will explore what has brought you to therapy and I will gently guide you to a path of healing and growth.

As a clinician I often utilize EMDR, DBT, TF-CBT, IFS and other evidence-based modalities to effect meaningful growth and change.
Distressing experiences change the way the brain and body process the world around us. As a result of this change, the nervous system becomes dysregulated. Therapy provides a warm safe environment to explore your thoughts and feelings. Together we will focus on using evidence-based treatment methods based on Neurobiology to assist in affecting holistic and lasting change. Some issues I am skilled in include anxiety, depression, ADHD, PTSD, women’s issues, and relationship difficulties. My approach goes beyond the distress experienced within and extends further into thriving in community and harmony with others.

I utilize EMDR, when indicated, for clients interested in finding and healing the root cause of their anxiety, depression, trauma, phobias, grief, loss, and most other presenting issues.
Since 2010, I have been in private practice helping clients achieve optimal emotional well-being. My specialty is EMDR therapy, however, I also use talk therapy, CBT, and Solution-Focused-Therapy. I have a special place in my heart for EMDR because it is a root-cause approach that can be used for most presenting issues. I have seen the positive outcomes, firsthand, in so many of my clients through utilizing EMDR. EMDR truly unburdens clients from their past struggles and traumas that have shaped who they are today, these struggles manifest as most presenting issues. Together, we will work as a team to achieve your therapy goals.

My clients are authentic and capable people who work hard to understand others while often feeling misunderstood themselves. They are often people who have tried therapy before but the strategies didn't resonate, or they've struggled to feel motivated enough to try therapy for the first time. My clients are often fiercely curious and wise and are looking for support from someone who can offer a professional perspective while still respecting what they already know. My clients require flexibility and grace and are they are prioritized as whole people with full lives.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
