Accepting new clients located in Ohio and Virginia for secure video sessions. Many of us can find ourselves in a space of discourse throughout our lives. It can be difficult to face these challenges head-on without extra support. Through building a compassionate and supportive therapeutic relationship, we can work together to foster an environment for healthy exploration and seek the change you might want or need. I utilize neuroscience-based approaches to address dysregulation within our nervous systems, bodies, and minds that may be contributing to current and ongoing challenges.

Living in NoVa brings a unique set of challenges, stresses and anxiety that most accept as "normal". Having the tools to cope and succeed here is essential. Teens face their own set of challenges living in such affluence, which can bring its own set of anxiety and needs. Understanding the challenges and needs in NoVa is half the battle; developing the skills to manage relationships, boundaries and emotions within this very unique culture is the other. Together we can work to bring the balance and peace that is needed to succeed in this unique area.

I have and will continue to work with a wide range of populations from chronic pain/ illness, LGBTQIA+ folx, first responders, and medical workers.
Hi, I'm Haylee Hadaway, a pre-licensed social worker with Nova Telemental Health. As a Navy veteran and Navy spouse, I know mental health is important and necessary but seeking help is very stigmatized. Therefore, I believe that therapy should be a comfortable, non-judgemental asset to one's health. My goal would to be help you reach your goals and desires out of therapy. Whether that be navigating your way through a major life change or unpacking the past, my role is to help you find those answers.

Finding our way back to our whole self can be a difficult journey, one that asks us to connect with feelings not yet owned, wounds not yet processed, and longings not yet voiced. When our needs for comfort, validation, protection, and predictability are not met in our relationships, we can be vulnerable to feeling unworthy, unsafe, and that our needs are unimportant. The strategies we have for dealing with our unmet needs often show up in similar patterns for managing stress, distress, and disconnection. Some move towards others, hoping that if we fight loud, long, or hard enough, our pain and anger will eventually be acknowledged.

Now accepting new Aetna clients! Being a human can be really hard sometimes. Maybe it’s hard because there’s an area in our lives where we struggle, like in our careers or relationships. Perhaps, we’ve experienced some painful times that we haven’t fully healed from or find ourselves engaging in problematic behaviors. Whatever our struggles, I’ve found that psychotherapy can help reduce our suffering and help connect us to the joy of being alive.

Chronic Pain Therapists
How does chronic pain therapy work?
Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.
What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?
Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.
Are there new treatments for chronic pain?
Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.
How long does therapy for chronic pain take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
