My ideal client would be at a place in their life where his/her/they spiritual journey matters to them. Sometimes, but not always, they will have a dream journal and a meditation practice. They pay attention to their dreams in the past couple of years, if not over most of their lifetime. They may have an interest in symbology and the meaning of the symbols that appear in their dreams. They have a meditation practice that is important to them and often will have a daily practice. Being of service to others matter to them and they have a genuine interest in figuring out and in fulfilling their Mission in this life.

I take time to clearly understand each client's problems, goals, and preferences, and then we work together to develop a treatment plan specific to these needs. Based on my experience, clients need to know that their problems are fully understood. When this occurs, they oftentimes feel that their problems are truly validated. Also, when a treatment plan is geared towards someone's specific needs, this offers hope and motivation for change. Clients have repeatedly given me the feedback that (1) I truly understand their problems and (2) I collaboratively work with them to develop tools for addressing their difficulties.

I currently have limited daytime availability. I work with clients who are struggling with themselves in some way. Perhaps trying to stop anxiety from running away with them. Perhaps trying to find meaning in what is happening to them and how to manage it. Perhaps fighting their body on weight, shape, or food. I want to end that struggle by building tools to discern and meet needs, replace negative and self-critical thoughts, and support healthier, compassionate beliefs about the self and the world around them.

As a resident in counseling, my intention is to meet you right where you are when you enter our shared space. Regardless of what you are carrying, I hope to lighten that load by offering a non-judgmental, listening ear and to assist you in processing. We all encounter hardships in life, and we are not meant to deal with those alone. Although you are the expert of your own journey, it can be helpful to walk alongside a trusted other in that journey.

Lonely but not alone. Another scroll through your social feed - Wedding pics. A baby on the way. A new house. Those couples look so annoyingly happy. And here you are. With YOUR partner thinking, “Where's our happily ever after?" In the beginning, you had so much fun together - talking and laughing for hours - but now you haven’t had a real conversation in weeks. And what’s the point in talking? It’s just fight after fight. You thought you had so much in common. Now, you're not sure you even KNOW who your partner is anymore. Romance, intimacy, and trust are long gone. "Would it be better if we just called it quits?"

I have over 20 years of helping students, parents, women, and BIPOC individuals with the unique challenges they face in life.
You are here. You’ve made it. You can breathe. You’ve made it through 100% of your hardest days. Your body is likely holding decades-worth of wounds and wisdom. You are likely tired and might be wondering if you need a change. You are waiting to breathe…to rest…to be. Our work together will focus on your authentic connection to yourself. We will create a space that centers your personal experiences, your family’s story, and your people’s pain and perseverance. A space and time that recognizes how your identities shape how you experience the world. A space and time in which you can be your full self. You are worthy of that.

Life can be overwhelming and confusing, beyond our external control. Having a safe space to process or begin an intentional healing journey can make life feel more manageable. In my counseling work, I believe our unique life stories, with all their complexities, are important and deserve to be held and heard. Sharing with others is a way to remind us that while our stories are unique, we are not alone in experiencing struggle. There are healing properties in connection with others and in community, something that counseling can help strengthen. I strive to empower my client’s as agents of their own change and growth.

Hi! Hola! I specialize in child and teen therapy. I am bilingual. All are welcome at Spiral Roots LLC. You know that your teen or child is struggling. You can see it in their behaviors, hear it in their voice, feel it in their attitude. You may or may not know the cause of their anger or pain. You just know they need help. The weight of the situation is heavy on you. They will not respond to your advice. You are not sure if they will talk to someone. Maybe in the past they blew off other therapists. Maybe your teen is actively asking for counseling. Wherever you are in this journey, I understand. I can help you and your family.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
