I enjoy working with clients in therapy who want to improve their marriage, family, or parenting difficulties. Families are complicated, and as someone who comes from a blended family and has been married for 26 years, I understand that a little support can go a long way. My personal and educational experience helps me connect with clients on a personal level, offering individualized guidance and strategies through the therapy lens. I strive to create a safe and understanding environment in our therapeutic relationship, where individuals or families can openly discuss their challenges and work towards a more harmonious life.

I care deeply and believe people can adapt to their life circumstances if given the necessary tools. It is not for lack of will but for lack of skill that people are not thriving. Therefore, my focus in therapy is to equip and empower individuals, couples and families to achieve healing. Having worked as a missionary for two decades and lived in three different continents, I possess a rich multicultural background, a love for diversity as well as the languages to communicate.

Areas of particular interest include adult development, women's issues, aging, expanding creativity, relationships and parenting.
Throughout life most of us experience transitions that challenge and transform us. Many of these passages can be navigated more effectively with the knowledge and compassion of an experienced professional. Combining Jungian psychology, family systems, humanistic psychology, modern neuroscience and mindfulness, I bring my full attention and presence to the sacred work of healing mind, body and heart with each client. In addition to traditional therapy, dream-work and creative expressions such as art, poetry, music and dance facilitate healing and growth. Relaxation and meditation techniques assist with grounding and centering.

Accepting New Clients- My approach follows the needs and goals of my clients. I begin by making sure I understand how my clients think and their personal history. I apply a variety of approaches to help people understand themselves, their relationships with others, and their goals for the future. Perhaps the most important aspect of my approach is to understand your point of view and to integrate it to provide an effective intervention strategy. Hi. I'm Lisa Smith, a Clinical Social Worker. I like our therapy to be a time of creating what next steps you are willing to try. Together we think of the barrier. I act as a coach for accountability with awareness of any diagnosis or past struggles you've had. I highlight your strengths and together we celebrate victories. The therapy I use is research-based. I'll show you the logic and ease of following incremental steps. I will share the traits of your personality or diagnosis that are working for or hindering progress. When plans don't work, we begin again.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
