My clients often reach out for help when they've hit a breaking point with feeling overwhelmed. Anxiety can take on a number of forms; I hear a lot about racing heartbeat, spirals of "what ifs" or other intrusive thoughts, replaying painful memories over and over, having trouble going places, and feeling on edge, hypervigilant, or "not good enough." These things can affect sleep, relationships, and the ability to enjoy life. Whether you've experienced trauma, are going through big life changes, or just noticed that you're not really feeling like yourself lately - you're here because it's time to talk to someone.

Keeping up appearances is getting harder. Stress, obligations, and worries are taking their toll. Between the many obligations you have, these days there's not much left over for you and it's getting harder to just brush it off and keep going. You wish there was a way to feel more like yourself, reconnect with the people you care about, and maybe even sleep better again. When was the last time you really felt your best? It's starting to feel like it's time to take the next step to take care of YOU now. To be able to really feel inside what you work so hard to show everyone on the outside.

During difficult times, the word “unravel” resonates with most of us. As human beings, at some point, we are bound to experience life stressors, trauma events, relationship difficulties, grief and loss, parenting struggles etc. I am aware there is no single therapeutic approach, and a range of flexibility and modalities is key to guide and assist in finding resolution and balance. My great passion is bringing healing to the people who have been through traumatic/stressful experiences and struggling to anchor, reflect and or reset. I believe in meeting clients where they are and in creating a collaborative therapeutic relationship.

I can help with depression, anxiety, trauma, life transitions, healthy habit-building, strengths-building, thought and emotion management, and more. Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
