A trusting, one-on-one relationship with an empathic therapist can be a safe environment for exploration and nonjudgmental feedback, as well as a powerful agent for healing, growth, and change. I am a licensed clinical psychologist who provides Telehealth psychological services for individuals and couples. I use an integrative approach in therapy, allowing me to tailor treatment needs to each individual rather than to a diagnosis.

I see therapy as time dedicated to unpacking your thoughts and feelings. It's also a space to process past experiences that may have been confusing or painful. I believe it's crucial to have a trusting therapeutic relationship where you are genuinely seen and valued, allowing space for all your identities to be acknowledged and validated. Working with me, you will find an attentive, compassionate, and non-judgmental therapist. My clinical foundation is psychodynamic, relational, cognitive behavioral, and culturally attuned.

I help clients achieve their goals by utilizing research-based interventions within a warm, nonjudgmental, and supportive therapeutic space. In this fast-paced and often high-pressure region in which we live, having a place to talk about the things going on in your life without having to worry about how it might impact others can be a relief within itself. I specialize in working with children (ages 10+), adolescents, and adults.

I am passionate about helping people improve their well-being and regain a sense of hope. Trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), I help clients improve sleep by exploring beliefs and circadian rhythm issues that hinder sleep. CBT-I is a powerful protocol that the American College of Physicians recognizes as the first-line treatment for adults with chronic insomnia. In addition to sleep therapy, I utilize biofeedback to train heart rate variability (HRV), which aids in regulating nervous system functioning, decreasing anxiety, enhancing emotional regulation, and improving stress management.

The process of therapy is an act of courage. Choosing to open up to explore what isn't working in our lives is a powerful step. This is a place to explore what doesn't work, understanding why it's not working and exploring options for change.Over the past 30 years my work has developed and grown. I work best with older teens and adults. I enjoy working with individuals and couples. Helping parents of teenagers navigate their relationships with their children is a real passion of mine.

For many of us, it can seem easier to support others, yet we struggle with taking care of ourselves. We often know how to be a good friend to a loved one, while falling short on being our own friend. Therapy is a great step in practicing self-awareness and self-care. It also is a way to learn skills that can help you achieve your goals. Using Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and other evidenced-based interventions, I work with clients to relieve suffering and achieve better quality of life. I specialize in working with depression, anxiety, OCD, adjustment difficulties, and relationship concerns.

I believe therapy means making you feel deeply known and accepted. My approach centers on harnessing your unique strengths in building the bridge between where you are and where you want to be. I appreciate how some old habits you have picked up at an earlier point may no longer serve you now. The process of understanding yourself with compassion and learning new ways of being in the world isn't always easy, but I'll be with you every step of the way.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
